Decatur Bulldog Boosters Reach Out To Community

Decatur Metro | August 18, 2009

Jim sends in this press release from the Bulldog Boosters…

The Decatur Bulldog Boosters (DBB) is a volunteer group of parents, teachers, administrators and community members who through their efforts support all the athletic teams at Renfroe Middle and Decatur High Schools. There are currently 25 teams representing 14 sports at RMS and DHS. And we are the only Booster Club for the middle and high school and support all sports. Over 55% of the students at the middle and high schools participate in at least one sport. No school district money or gate receipts can go to funding the uniforms, equipment, and/or student recognition awards for athletics at either the middle or high school. Therefore, the DBB must raise this money, annually. Athletics is a significant part of the City Schools of Decatur experience which augments the fine academic tradition that has served all our graduates so well and contributes each year to our sense of community.

The Decatur Bulldog Boosters would like to invite the business community to join us in supporting these fine student athletes by supporting the DBB.

Eugene Walker Resigns From DeKalb Development Authority

Decatur Metro | August 18, 2009

The Champion is reporting that the chairman of the DeKalb Development Authority, Eugene Walker, has resigned from his position.

Walker came under recent pressure for accepting $18,000 in campaign contributions from the Sembler Company during the last election cycle after Sembler came a-callin’ for a $52 million tax break on the Dunwoody Town Brookhaven development.

Terrell Bolton’s Firing Upheld

Decatur Metro | August 18, 2009

From Fox 5 Atlanta…

The firing of former DeKalb County Police Chief Terrell Bolton was upheld Monday. Bolton was fired following a FOX 5 I-Team investigation that found Bolton took 70 comp days during his first two years on the job.

DeKalb CEO Burrell Ellis fired Bolton for insubordination, misuse of county property and acts unbecoming an officer.

What will DeKalb’s ex-telecommuting police chief do now?  Well according to the article, he still has an Equal Opportunity Commission complaint pending, so that should keep him busy for a bit longer.

Hats still off to CEO Burrell Ellis for working quickly to clean up this mess.

Part-Time Day Care Around Decatur?

Decatur Metro | August 18, 2009

Paula asked this question during Free-For-All Friday last week…

Does anyone know about part-time day-care options? Most of the places my friends use are full-time only. Two days a week, or three mornings a week would be perfect.

I’m going to assume the she is looking in the Decatur/DeKalb/Atlanta area.
