Best Local Pedicure for the Money?
Decatur Metro | April 8, 2013Scrub down those calluses and paint those nails! In response to AHID’s request last week…
For those of us who are so revenue-negative that we don’t invest heavily in local bars and breweries, when can we do Best Local Pedicure for the Money?
Here ya go!
I’m partial to Miss Nails (next to Burnt Fork). Tuesday is discount day. I like Jazmin Spa too (across the parking lot from CVS) but they are slightly more expensive, I think.
+1 for Miss Nails. My daughter and I are going tomorrow for discount Tuesday. Just made our appointments.
+1 for Miss Nails
Viet Traditional nails across from Noodle!
Get the #3 it is worth every penny!
Thanks for posting this topic! I’ve passed Miss Nails but never knew if it was worth a try.
BTW: pedicure +alcohol is option. Viet Nail serves wine with option 3! I just happen to know.
What is the #3 at Viet Nail? You have me curious! Thanks.
To be honest, I don’t find a whole lot of difference between the #1, #2, and #3 pedicures (never tried any higher numbers!) so I usually get the #1, the cheapest pedicure. IMHO, it seems to vary more by who does the pedicure. I believe that the official answer has something to do with sea salt scrub and length of time of massage. But if you want wine, you have to order #3 or maybe it’s #2 or higher. To me, Viet Nails is a little pricey; on the other hand, you can walk in without a prior appointment which fits my lifestyle just right. Haven’t tried Jazmin or Miss Nails yet. To me, manicures and pedicures have gotten a bit pricey everywhere in recent years; my old favorite place was reasonable but it closed. My new approach for manicures is to choose the more expensive gel nails because they dry quicker and literally last forever, looking great. A regular manicure is cheaper but it’s all money down the drain if I ruin them immediately after getting in the car while using my keys.
You had me at the wine, but the rest of it sounds wonderful too!
#3
Regular pedi plus
Callus remover
Sea salt scrub
Clay mask with hot towels
Extra leg massage
A Drink
$36
Like I said, worth EVERY penny!
I’m a big fan of Viet Nails. The standard pedicure (#1) is $28. It’s very clean and they have a great vibe. The staff is sweet and the manager on the weekends is super-friendly with a great sense of humor. I’ve been to Jasmin a few times. It definitely looks more hip inside but I find it is more expensive and I sense tension between the staff members and some have attitude. It’s just not a relaxing atmosphere. I’ve never been to Miss Nails so I can’t speak for them.
I’ve been very disappointed the last few times at Jazmin, especially given their prices. Haven’t been to Miss nails in years. One so so experience at vietnails. I’ve been going in buckhead on my way home from work. Much better prices & service.
+++1 for Miss Nails. Discount Tuesdays, wine on Wednesdays (I think), coffee and tea, massaging spa chairs, excellent service and the owner and staff are wonderful. I have been a customer for ten years and love when I see moms and kids and elderly couples getting their services done and how wonderful Tina and her staff treat everyone.
Over the past year I have tried all the Decatur places listed, and have been a very happy customer at Miss Nails. VERY nice and they have a punchcard where you work your way up to services. The gel polish is awesome! If you are lazy about weekly visits like me, it’s the best ever
Passion Nails on North Highland in Inman Park. Best pedicures for $20 and includes beer/wine. I love this place.
Did somebody call me?
I love Viet Nails! They are CLEAN, friendly and always do quality work. I have always been a little apprehensive about the cleanliness at Miss Nails. Any input? Jazmin is nice, but a bit pricey.
How about a “Favorite Concealed Carry Pistol and Why” thread.
Oh, try a pedicure! It may make you feel less like carrying a weapon!
I get a kick out of seeing men get pedicures. I’ve tried to get mine to go a few times, but unfortunately he still thinks of it as a “girl” thing. I guess as long as he keeps the eyebrows and nose hair groomed, that’s enough for me.
I’ll get it started. Bersa .380 CC (compact carry). Single-stack magazine, which makes it slim and comfortable for small hands. It doesn’t bruise your palm when you shoot it. Surprisingly accurate, too, with nice tritium sights for easy acquisition.
Our go to joint is Jazmin Spa in Kirkwood.
LA nails by Eagle Eye bookstore!
Every time I think “I should get a pedicure” I read the reviews on Yelp and then do it myself.
What I want to know is who is using an autoclave religiously and also does a decent job?
You definitely have to suspend your disbelief with nail salons. It’s an addiction. But ditto for many of these Best Local…. threads!
but no, I don’t want to suspend disbelief when it comes to autoclaving.
Because
(a) gross, and
(b) hepatitis
If you don’t know, google it. Same with anyone crazy enough to let their kids get pierced by a mall (or any) store re-using equpment, no autoclave.
I’m with Bijoux 100%. Love, love, love a good foot massage (or a mediocre one, or any one I can get) but there’s nothing appealing about the idea of somebody digging around my toenails with the same instruments used on other people’s feet. I’m afraid of getting a fungal infection. In fact, this whole thread gives me the heebie-jeebies. Toenails and commuting–that’s all we’ve got this week?
Oh, I definitely recognize the sanitary risk but we all have our “Favorite Local…” addictions and vices. Alcohol has been linked to a vice or two. I don’t believe that hepatitis B has ever been passed via pedicures, has it? Via tattoo parlors, yes. Via ear piercing, plausible. But I believe that nail salons have mostly been associated with skin infections and cellulitis. Not that that’s good. But hepatitis B is less casually transmitted.
Again, I say: fungal infection. A bad one can be with you for years. Not trying to dissuade you or anyone else, just puzzled that so many people (nearly every female I know, frankly) are so unconcerned.
Another concern that I have with nail salons is toxicity. Have read credible reports that brands of polish supposedly free of toluene, formaldehyde and that third toxin I can’t remember, were found in random tests to still contain all three. And the remover is extremely toxic, I’ve read that you shouldn’t use it on yourself more than a couple of times a month and then with good ventilation. It’s got to be bad for the people working in the salons. Don’t get me wrong, I keep my toenails polished in the summertime. But I take a break in the winter because I believe what I’ve read about it being unhealthy to keep polish (let alone fake nails) on all the time.
And have to mention this, just because it was such a spectacle: yesterday I saw a woman wearing false fingernails that were as long as her fingers. I do not exaggerate. She was working as a retail cashier and I was completely mesmerized watching her use a pen and handle cash. Wanted so badly to take a picture, but was afraid if I offended her, she’d slow down even more and it really would take forever to get out of there.
I am a regular at Jazmin. It seems a little more “upscale” than VietNails, but not as pricey as a spa. I am willing to try Miss Nails if you all say it is clean….
It’s outside of COD but I’m a big fan of Dream Nails in Shamrock Plaza (N. Druid and L-ville Hwy). You often have to wait a long time to get started — but once you sit down, they REALLY spend a lot of time on each patron (30-45 mins) and the pedicures last a long time. $17 I believe.
Second this! The basic pedicure is very affordable and they still make sure your feet are soft and fabulous looking. You can throw in an extra salt scrub for $5 and come away cheaper than most places.
Passion Nail Salon in Inman Park! I know it’s 10 minutes outside of Decatur, but it is fantstic, classy and serves beer/wine. Plus, the massage chairs are amazing. Prices way lower than Jazmin. HIGHLY recommend.
Also outside the COD, but I adore Midtown Nails in on Ponce. It’s in the Whole Foods/TJ Maxx plaza. Clean, friendly, tons of nail polishes and gels to chose from, and the price is right. Weekends are kind of a mob scene, but I like to go after work, when it’s less crowded and I can just relax and chill in those comfy pedi-chairs.
Another vote for Midtown Nails! The last time I went, their regular pedicure was $20. It’s been a long time, though…my feet are a disaster.
Angel Nails on Ponce — a little ways away, across from Cactus Car Wash. Best, cleanest and most affordable by far. I also have my eyebrows done at the same time which is the best kep affordable secret! Ask for Hannah or Amy.
There used to be a manicure place in Snellville called Nail Hero. As a former New Yorker, I was happy to find out it wasn’t a sandwich shop.
