Decatur Police Arrest Kroger Purse Snatcher

Decatur Metro | August 3, 2009

More good work by the Decatur police.

I wrote a note to DPD this morning asking about a “robbery” near Kroger, which showed up on Crimereports.com, this past weekend.  An hour later I received this Decatur Police Arrest Alert:

On Saturday, August 1, 2009, a “robbery by snatch” occurred in the parking lot of 720 Commerce Drive. Approximately 15 minutes later Decatur Police officers arrested the suspect without incident. The stolen purse was recovered, no items were missing from purse, and it was returned to the victim at the scene.

No weapon was involved in this crime.

The suspect is not a Decatur resident.

City Commission Considers DeVry Annexation Tonight

Decatur Metro | August 3, 2009

devry map

Just a reminder: The city commission will finally vote on the DeVry annexation this evening.  There are so many materials for the meeting that they had to break it into two documents.

If you’re looking for a recap of the issues surrounding the annexation, click back to this post from a couple weeks ago.  The only change since then has been the school board’s approval of the project last Thursday and an updated projection of 30-60 students added to the school system as a result.

Completely built out, this property could provide up to $55 million in yearly revenue to the city.

Love Outside? Love Atlanta.

Decatur Metro | August 3, 2009

Atlanta’s love/hate relationship with rankings continue.

This time it’s all about the love, since Outside Magazine rated our city the third “best” in the country after ranking on all the usual factors (quality of life, unemployment, college degrees, income level, home prices, weather) and then throwing in some additional factors that matter most to Outside readers – quality and proximity to hiking, biking, running, paddling, and skiing.

In citing reasons for Atlanta’s supremacy over cities that normally crush us with their ocean views and more iconic skylines, Outside points to things like trout fishing in the Hooch, proximity to the start of the Appalachian Trail, cliff jumping in the Palisades, Piedmont Park, LEED-certified Phillips Arena (huh?), and the Brick Store.

I guess we don’t stand a chance in Couch-Potato Weekly now.
