DM’s “Decatur: There’s a Festival For That” T-Shirt Now on Sale

Decatur Metro | October 27, 2010

Click the pics above to enlarge and see the design up close

The insanely long wait is finally over.  After absorbing months of cat calls and heckling, the first, official Decatur Metro t-shirt is finally here!

As any DM-addict can tell you, the brilliant catch-phrase “Decatur: There’s a Festival for That” comes from the minds of the first-name wunderkinds “Russ” and “Dave” in a moment of random collaboration way back in late 2009 during the “Describe Decatur in 6 Words” discussion.

And it was all uphill from there!

Lauren and Marcia at Lampe-Farley brought my vague concept of festival line drawings to life in design and Patrick at Decatur Screenprint turned the whole dang thing into tangible, organic objects ready for your discretionary consumption.

Now I imagine one or two of you are thinking “I like festivals and tolerate this website. How do I get one!?”

Good question, disgruntled reader!  Your easiest option is to get yourself over to our BRAND-NEW WEBSTORE, where you can purchase the Men’s/Unisex tee online for just $18 (w/free shipping for a limited time!).

But if you’d like to try it on first or you’re looking for a more fitted look OR want to flaunt your festi-love during the dead of winter, our fitted “Ladies” and “Kid” tees along with long-sleeve versions are currently on display and available for you to try-on and purchase at Decatur Screenprint (located at 340 West Ponce de Leon Ave, Decatur, GA).  We plan to make these other options available for online purchase, but it’ll be a few weeks.  I’ll keep you updated.)

All details and joking aside, I hope you like it.  This shirt was a long-time in the making and wouldn’t have been possible without the help of Marcia, Lauren, Patrick and my wife (who continually endures and responds to a never-ending, unfiltered list of my “ideas”).

Anyone Bringing The Sane This Weekend?

Decatur Metro | October 27, 2010
The Daily Show With Jon Stewart Mon – Thurs 11p / 10c
Welcome to the Sanity Bus

Daily Show Full Episodes Political Humor Rally to Restore Sanity

A recent post on Fresh Loaf about Georgia participants in this weekend’s Daily Show “Rally to Restore Sanity” in Washington D.C. (video above) reminded me that a couple weeks back someone emailed in asking if I could find out if any other Decaturites would be joining them at the rally in D.C.

So, here I go – Will there be a Decatur faction of sanity in D.C. this weekend?  You people seem pretty wacko to me.

Decatur School Redistricting Public Hearing November 3rd

Decatur Metro | October 27, 2010

UPDATE: Here’s CSD’s official note, with dates and times for both public hearings…

On November 3, 2010 at 6:00 pm the City Schools of Decatur will hold an Information Session regarding elementary attendance zones in the Edith Hambie Professional Learning Center at Central Office at Westchester (758 Scott Boulevard, Decatur, GA 30030). This session will be followed by a Board of Education Public Hearing at 7:00 pm in the Board Room at the Central Office.

For interested parties who are unable to attend the meetings on November 3rd, a second Information Session and Public Hearing will be held at the Central Office on November 16th at 6:00 pm followed by a Public Hearing at 7:00 pm.

A vote on elementary attendance zones is planned for the December 14, 2010 Board of Education Meeting.

Posted on the City Schools of Decatur website…

  • November 3, 2010 Information Session – Elem. Attendance Zones (6:00 pm)
  • November 3, 2010 BOE Public Hearing – Elem. Attendance Zones (7:00 pm)
  • November 9, 2010 BOE Regular Monthly Meeting (6:30 pm)

I’ve got a note into CSD to confirm the second public hearing before the School board takes a vote on this and whether the actual vote will occur at the November or December meeting.  Stay tuned.

If you’re new to this conversation, here’s a link to the previous relevant posts.  Also, here’s a link to the 7 map options.

Caroline Herring Children’s Musical at Eddie’s Attic This Saturday

Decatur Metro | October 27, 2010

I don’t know about you, but I loved “The Little House” when I was younger.  Guess that means I still love it!

Local musician Caroline Herring writes in…

I have written a children’s musical based on the book The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton, and will be performing it Saturday at 1pm at Eddie’s Attic. Charles Williams and his trio will be playing with me, and Sylvia Cross of Sycamore Place Art Gallery will narrate. Allison Adams is the art director. Flora Rosefsky, an Atlanta artist, did the artwork for the poster and the show which I have attached. The show is called ‘Shelter’.

I’ll also be letting the adults hear some of it at my show on Friday night, also at Eddie’s Attic (8pm).

I’d be grateful for a good word.
