Tour of Homes Oakhurst Style!

Decatur Metro | October 22, 2010

Cheryl Burnette sends in this note regarding this year’s Decatur Holiday Tour of Homes…

In celebration of Oakhurst’s 100th Anniversary, the Decatur Holiday Candlelight Tour of Homes will include homes only in our neighborhood! Featured homes are on 2nd Avenue, Feld Avenue, Jefferson Place, W. Benson St and East Lake Drive. Points of interest in the neighborhood include Fire Station No. 2 and Oakhurst Presbyterian Church.

New this year is the Friend of the Tour level, which is $100. This is a great way for people and businesses in the community to support such a wonderful event and cause. (Contact Katie about this as well.) Proceeds from the Tour benefit the Decatur Youth Fund and the Decatur Preservation Alliance. Missing Pup Was Hit By Car, But “Doing Really Well”

Decatur Metro | October 22, 2010

Clara’s owner writes in…

…a DM reader found my dog in her tool shed in her back yard. So, thank you! Of all my efforts, contacting you is the one that paid off.

Clara was hit by a car. I took her to the vet, and they did x-rays. Her only injury was a dislocated hip. The vet popped it back in while she was under anesthesia, and she’s doing really well. I picked her up yesterday. Please thank your readers for their help. My son and I are very happy to have Clara home.

Will/Should Decatur Ban or Tax Plastic Bags?

Decatur Metro | October 22, 2010

Decatur Environmental Sustainability Board member KC Boyce wrote on Twitter this morning…

Should #DecaturGA ban or tax plastic bags and/or disposable take-out containers?

Looking back at the latest uploaded minutes from the Sustainability Board meeting in August, it seems like at least the tax is a serious consideration.

Presentation on options for a plastic bag tax: Jill presented an overview on some statistics and pros and cons of plastic bag ban or “tax.” The board is interested in pursuing this but wants to better understand the impacts and options and pros and cons specific to the City and businesses, especially in light of conflicting information found in various news sources.

ACTION: Committee will continue research and will come back to the board to share.
