Decatur Metro | October 1, 2010Ugh.

Avondale Police are saying that it was most likely “domestic-related.”
MARTA Offers Up Tasty Beverages For Fall
Decatur Metro | October 1, 2010The Atlanta Business Chronicle reports that today is the day that MARTA “cuts the ribbon…on the first phase of a retail concession initiative aimed at bringing additional income to the cash-strapped transit agency.”
On Twitter, the transit authority announces, “Wow! Vending machines are free on first come first served basis while supply lasts!”
That is if you can find one. The ABC report notes that not all stations will have machines today, and they will be installed over the next several weeks.

“Shocking” Almost Expired Cheese Found at Clairemont Elementary
Decatur Metro | October 1, 2010I swear, if I talked or reported stuff like this, you people would laugh me right off the internet.
After CBS Atlanta reported earlier this week that Marietta City School employees had been serving children expired food for lunch, all the Atlanta news agencies have been buzzing about potentially expired lunch food in school warehouses and refrigerators.
Somehow the City Schools of Decatur got itself wrapped into a CBS follow-up story yesterday where they gave the network access to the CSD’s lunchrooms and to the school system’s nutritional director Allison Goodman.
However, instead of highlighting to complete LACK of expired food or food warehouses at CSD, OR the school system’s focus on local produce initiatives, CBS Atlanta honed in on an off-hand comment by Goodman that CBS Atlanta reporter Crystal Cruz deemed “shocking”: cheese near-expiration found at the back of a freezer!

Pine Lake Lakefest This Weekend
Decatur Metro | October 1, 2010
Megan and Lalah write in to remind me that I’ve been meaning to put up information about this weekend’s annual Pine Lake Lakefest!
For those of you who don’t know about the small, “quirky as hell” DeKalb town of Pine Lake, it’s about 18 minutes east of Decatur towards Stone Mountain. Aside from having a lake, Pine Lake “is one of the most eclectic cities in the state, including among its residents a number of locally, regionally and nationally known artists in the fields of music (Rick Richards of the Georgia Satellites, Elise Witt), fine art (Richard Cessil), sculpture, poetry (Alice Teeter) and prose and other disciplines.”, according to Wikipedia.
“But what is Lakefest?”, you ask. Here’s the bulleted overview…
