Kitsch’n 155 on Clairmont Road Closes

Decatur Metro | March 11, 2013

Heather points to this notice on Kitsch’n 155′s website…

Dear family, friends and faithful Kitsch’n followers,

We are very thankful to have found so many new friends and to have been welcomed into such a great community. You have greeted us daily with your smiles and eagerness to enjoy our food and fellowship. It has been a pleasure to serve you and be part of your daily lives, and an honor to have been part of your celebrations as well.

As many of you know we are a small family business and have made family a priority throughout this adventure. In continuing with that theme, Randy has been offered an opportunity to work in another family business, and we are taking advantage of that opportunity. Saturday, March 9th was the last day of operation for Kitsch’n 155. We could not have done this for the last 2 years without the help of our great team members who have worked side by side with us daily, and have become part of our family. We will leave with many great memories of our time here and would like to thank you all for coming along on our ride down 155!

Sincerely,

Randy and Lisa Stewart

The Answer To “What Happened to Badda Bing?”

Decatur Metro | March 11, 2013

Shannon sends along this explanation from Michael Condon, chef and owner of BaddaBing! Catering and Calle Latina:

Hello everyone. I’ve had a few people ask me if BaddaBing! is no longer in business after seeing the Calle Latina sign up at our Church Street location. I want to assure you that BaddaBing! is still in business and going strong–so strong, that we’re moving to a larger space with a 3,000 square foot kitchen on Ponce de Leon Ave! We’ll still be serving both loyal and new customers, now with more space.
The location on Church Street is much better suited for a retail restaurant. Calle Latina will be Decatur’s first and only place for authentic South American street food, including empanadas, arepas, aguas frescas, dulces and more. The BaddaBing! catering menu will expand to include Calle Latina offerings, and we couldn’t be more excited for the new addition. We’ll update you soon with launch dates and the new Calle Latina website, complete with menu, in the coming weeks.
For more information about BaddaBing! Catering, please visit http://www.baddabing.net/.

Decatur Kindergarten Almost at Projected Enrollment for Next Year

Decatur Metro | March 11, 2013

On the heels of a post on Atlanta Magazine (thanks DrB!) about CSD suspending admission of tuition students (this was mentioned at the LAST school meeting, but I blanked in posting it), there’s this mention at the end of Superintendent Edwards’ overview for March School Board meeting tomorrow…

Enrollment projections for next year were set at 4036 (K-12). Kindergarten projections : 371.

At this time, we have 112 new Kindergarten students (last year 105). We have 142 new students overall with an enrollment of 10 new students at the 9th grade alone. With the calculation of the PreK students moving up – we are already close to meeting the projection for Kindergarten. We will keep you informed as the spring goes on.

And as the Superintendent said in the Atlanta Magazine piece…

We haven’t even kicked into [the main registration period of] late spring or summer,

Decatur School Board to Vote on Reopening Westchester as K-3 School for 2014-15 School Year

Decatur Metro | March 11, 2013

This one should be no surprise to any, but it’s always nice to know where we are in the process.

On the docket for Tuesday night’s Decatur School Board meeting, approving a resolution that would reopen Westchester as a K-3 elementary school starting in fall 2014. According to a summary by Director of Operations Jason Ware, the resolution is needed now to move forward with a getting a new certificate of occupancy from the Georgia Department of Education.

As to what kind of K-3 Westchester will be, that decision is still being weighed.  Asst. Superintendent Thomas Van Soleon told me a few weeks back that the Board will examine “the work product of our Master Planning consultant at the March 12 meeting”.  So I guess we should know more in the relatively recent future.
