Philip Glass, Lang Lang, and Chris Thile Coming to Emory
Decatur Metro | March 21, 2013From an Emory press release…
Emory University’s Schwartz Center for Performing Arts announces the 2013-14 Candler Concert Series, featuring preeminent artists such as influential composer and musician Philip Glass and superstar pianist Lang Lang, referred to as “the hottest artist on the classical music planet” (“New York Times”).
The series also presents the overlapping worlds of classical and pop: artists include Punch Brothers’ Chris Thile, mandolin, in a fall concert; and the young, energetic ensemble yMusic in the spring.
Jazz is celebrated in the February program “The Newport Jazz Festival: Now 60”—spotlighting both the great history of the Newport Jazz Festival and its current role as one of the most active presenters of contemporary jazz artists in the world.
Other Candler artists include the national orchestra of Estonia, mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke, and pianist Inon Barnatan with cellist Alisa Weilerstein; rounding out a rich season of classical, new music, and jazz.
