48 Hours in Atlanta….GO!

It ain’t even March yet, but Steve points to this new article in the “April issue” of National Georgraphic entitled, “48 Hours in Atlanta” by the Atlanta Mag Food Editor Bill Addison.  There’s this rather clever observation at the beginning..

“People tend to forget that Atlanta is young compared to other American cities,” says author and illustrator Tray Butler, a Georgia native. “New York was founded 200 years earlier. Even Sunbelt superstars like Charlotte or Houston are technically our older siblings. What we have is a youthful exuberance, a kind of rebellious spirit, and yes, some growing pains. Atlanta is like a teenager: It can’t stop changing.”

Both Cakes & Ale and its homestead of Decatur get mentions – with the old “Decatur is to Atlanta as Berkeley is to…”.  You know the rest.

Addison has a lot for you to take on in your 48 hour stay.  MLK National Historic Site!  Little Tart Bakeshop!  Inman Park!  Billy Reid!  Miller Union!  Oakland! High! Dad’s!

Anything missing?  Beltline?  Piedmont Park?

Oakhurst Church Changes Name

Pastor Timothy Lloyd sends along this press release…

In the midst of a dramatic increase in attendance from across the eastern half of Metro Atlanta, Oakhurst Church is changing its name to Eastside Church. The
church remains in its location at 630 East Lake Drive, near Family Dollar and Harmony Park.
Since the church opened in August 2011, regular attendance has nearly doubled, to about 150 per week. Some members live in Oakhurst and surrounding neighborhoods such as Kirkwood and East Lake, but many come from farther away. At a recent service, church officials displayed a Google Map that visually represented the geography of the church’s current membership. The dots on the map were distributed throughout the Eastside of Metro Atlanta.

It’s Literally A Free For All Wednesday: What Are You Reading?

Dave is stuck in Kansas City (a likely excuse!), so he suggested we put up a “What are you reading?” open thread, which I think is a great idea, since it seems that so many folks enjoy the end of year “Best Books” thread.

So, here you go….what are you reading?  And/or what have you enjoyed reading lately?

Free, Reliable Decatur Wi-Fi Coming To Public Spaces in March

From The Decatur Minute…

Beginning March 1, Decatur will be offering free public Wi-Fi in several public spaces: downtown Decatur, the Oakhurst business district, Oakhurst Park, Glenlake Park, McKoy Park, and Adair Park. These spaces are ideally suited for work and play, and now users can count on a reliable Wi-Fi signal free of charge!

Residents and visitors will now be able to stay connected with their smartphones, tablets and other Wi-Fi-enabled devices while in these community spaces.

I believe the way this wi-fi will be different from the old Decatur wi-fi, is that not only will it be “reliable”, but it also it would be provided at a faster speed and there will be no time-limit.  I’m sure the city will correct me if I’m wrong!
