Pine Lake Lakefest This Weekend
Decatur Metro | October 1, 2010
Megan and Lalah write in to remind me that I’ve been meaning to put up information about this weekend’s annual Pine Lake Lakefest!
For those of you who don’t know about the small, “quirky as hell” DeKalb town of Pine Lake, it’s about 18 minutes east of Decatur towards Stone Mountain. Aside from having a lake, Pine Lake “is one of the most eclectic cities in the state, including among its residents a number of locally, regionally and nationally known artists in the fields of music (Rick Richards of the Georgia Satellites, Elise Witt), fine art (Richard Cessil), sculpture, poetry (Alice Teeter) and prose and other disciplines.”, according to Wikipedia.
“But what is Lakefest?”, you ask. Here’s the bulleted overview…
- ART — Art and artcrafts on display/sale will include painting, felting, photography, handcrafted jewelry, handmade cards/stationary, and more.
- MUSIC — Live musical performances will include rock, European-gypsy jazz, electro-pop, international folk, and acoustic Americana genres.
- FOOD — A variety of foods, baked goods, soft drinks, beer, and wine will be available for purchase.
- FUN — Activities for attendees of all ages will include a sand sculpture contest, face painting and children’s art activities, a Saturday night beach party, and more. The Sand-Sculpture Contest will be held on Saturday from noon til 2pm. Floatzilla lines up at 4:15, departs from the west side of the lake at 5pm sharp!
Lakefest will fest it up from 10am-Dark on Saturday and from 12p-6p on Sunday. Use “Lakeshore Drive, Pine Lake, GA 30072″, if you’re looking for directions via Google Maps.
