    Avondale Man Stabs Wife, Self

    Decatur Metro | October 1, 2010

    Ugh.

The AJC is reporting that a “60-ish” man stabbed his wife to death and then attempted to kill himself in the same fashion at their Avondale Estates home this morning.

Avondale Police are saying that it was most likely “domestic-related.”

Didn’t a similar domestic incident happen in Avondale last year?

JB may be referring to the shooting murder / suicide last year on Clarendon Ave.

Sadly, Georgia ranks 10th in the nation for men killing women. and 7 of the states in the top 10 are Southern states. Domestic violence shelters across the state are overloaded with requests for services, such as emergency shelter, assistance with obtaining protective orders, support group and individual counseling, etc. In the last year, there have been substantial periods of time where there was not a single available shelter bed for women trying to flee the violence. Despite the need, state funding for these shelters continues to get drastically cut year after year.

There was also a similar incident about 6-7 years ago on Berekeley, a few doors down from the house I lived in at the time. Gracious!
