Five Seasons & Sembler Kiss and Make Up

Decatur Metro | September 19, 2008

Omnivore Atlanta has the official statement announcing that Five Seasons’ battle with Sembler over their Prado location is officially over and everything is now peachy keen between the two companies.  (At least as well as things can be after you claim that your counterpart thinks you’re worth more “dead than alive”.)

I guess raising a public stink really paid off for Five Seasons.

Car-Free Day: Excuses, Excuses…

Decatur Metro | September 19, 2008

Dan Magee writes in with word that next Wednesday, September 24th is Car-Free Day in Decatur.  Not only does that mean the ultra-obvious, but it also means a Blue Sky Concert on the Square at noon!

Unfortunately that also means I can’t participate.  Though I am now taking the MARTA train to work at least once a week, Wednesdays are the one weekday when “no car” makes “no sense” for me.  So, I guess I’ll have to make Tuesday my official Car-Free day and just duck below the dash as I burn fossil fuels past the mayor’s house on Wednesday.

Hopefully I don’t miss any car-free dance parties that spontaneously break out on the MARTA platform.  That would really burn my biscuits.

Full release with details after the jump… Read the rest of this entry »

Elected Parents for School Leadership Teams Announced

Decatur Metro | September 19, 2008

The CSD has posted a list of the parents that have been elected to its brand spankin’ new Leadership Teams, which will lead our city schools forward under the new charter designation.

Clairemont – Anita Corbett, Andrew Lewis, Robert Pope, Allison Taylor

Oakhurst – Jonathan Hull, Mary Stoops, Anthony Whatley

Winnona Park – Paul Ferraro, Aaron Hillegass, Kim Rossi, Eve Wyatt

Glennwood – John Garrison, Gabriel Ramirez , Karen Simmons

Renfroe Middle – Peg Bumgardner, Laura Fehrs, Lexie Parker

Decatur High – David Hughes, Lew Lefton, Susan Strickland

I guess we can assume that Clairemont and Winnona Park will have larger Leadership Teams, since they have elected four parents instead of three.

And according to a comment by Winnona Park principal Greg Wiseman in a previous post, the full teams still need to appoint a final member from the community to give parents the majority.

Decatur High's New Stadium Opens Tonight

Decatur Metro | September 19, 2008

As Next Stop…Decatur notes, the new DHS stadium gets christened tonight with its first football game as the Decatur Bulldogs take on the Hillgrove Hawks.  The game starts at 7:30pm, but a Pep Rally and Grand Opening Ceremony precede kickoff, starting at 5:30p.

According to the AJC, the city expects a big turnout.  Tickets are $5 for student, $7 general admission, and $10 for reserved seats.

Oh, and if you haven’t yet seen Decatur edTV’s interview with Decatur High Athletic Director, Carter Wilson, about what the new stadium means to DHS students and the community, I recommend taking a minute a watch it here.
