The Answer is: Goats?

Decatur Metro | September 3, 2008

The AJC reports from the city commission meeting on a potential answer to my question from a few days back about what to do with all that kudzu in the cemetery woodlands.  Apparently it could be goats.

Sounds like Decaturmom’s suggestion of guinea pigs wasn’t that far off.

Darn!  I hate it when the AJC beats me to all the good goat stories!

Retraction: The Grange NOT Open To Public on Friday

Decatur Metro | September 3, 2008

OK folks.  I kinda screwed up regarding The Grange’s opening date this coming weekend.

Though there IS a celebration of sorts on Friday, it is geared more toward friends and family than the general public.  I assumed when I should have clarified.  My bad.

So, you’ll have to hold off one more day and stop by on Saturday after 4pm instead.  If by chance you don’t see this message until after Friday and stop by only to find I’ve led you astray, I apologize.  Tell all your drinking buddies.

But still make sure to stop by Saturday…its gonna be great!

And as the much statelier GriftDrift always says when he’s bullied into comparing newspapers to blogs, “Hey at least I print my retractions on the front page instead of hiding them at the bottom of page 6″.

Decatur Metro | September 3, 2008

The Grange's New Hardwood Floors

Daily Candy plugs The Grange with some kind words a mere two days before it opens.

h/t: The misses

UPDATE: As MC points out in the comments section, there are now pics of the interior up on the Grange’s website.  The hardwoods look AWESOME!

Inaugural Decatur Old House Fair

Decatur Metro | September 3, 2008

I don’t think I’m going out on a limb when I say that a lot of Decatur’s pride stems from its historic neighborhoods. (Lord knows it’s not coming from Quizno’s plaza!)

Now the city, in conjunction with the Decatur Preservation Alliance and DeKalb History Center, is giving you a helping hand in learning about and maintaining your historic home!

On Saturday, October 25th from 10a-5p, Decatur will host its first-ever Old House Fair at the Holiday Inn Conference Center.  Admission is only $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

All the details can be found here.

DBF Meets 75,000 Goal

Decatur Metro | September 3, 2008

According to a blurb in this morning’s hard-copy of the AJC (can’t find it online), the Decatur Book Festival attracted a total of 75,000 attendees this past weekend.  That’s up a good 15,000 from last year.

Funny thing…that was the EXACT number the DBF publicly hoped for before the festival began.  FREAKY. Good thing that last person showed up on Sunday.  Can you imagine if they only attracted 74,999?  Disappointment!  75,000?  Success!

But seriously, how are such open events are measured?

UPDATE: The official DBF release is touting 70,000 attendees.  I guess the AJC just rounded up.
