"Songs from Space" at Agnes Scott's Bradley Observatory

Decatur Metro | September 16, 2008

Carl sends along a note about a rather interesting discussion being led by Agnes Scott Music Prof. Tracey Laird about “Songs From Space” (aka Intergalactic Themes in American Music) at the Bradley Observatory this Friday, September 19th at 8pm.

If you can’t make it, but are interested in checking out the observatory, the College also runs an “Open House” series throughout the school year.

Committee To Mediate 315 W. Ponce Discussions

Decatur Metro | September 16, 2008

Anyone have details on this agenda item from last night’s City Commission meeting?

Request to establish a committee to convene and facilitate public meetings regarding development proposals at 315 West Ponce de Leon Avenue.

I wonder who will make up the committee. In a self-delusional world where I was apart of running such a committee, after quickly getting past the niceties, I’d make it top priority to determine whether either party was flexible in regards to the the number of units being built.  All other disagreements seem to stem from that.

What's With the Location of the Decatur Organic Farmer's Market?

Decatur Metro | September 16, 2008

Oakie writes in…

As a newbie to the area, I am confused as to why the farmers market in Decatur is held in the rather unsightly parking lot near BofA rather than on the town square? Is this a parking or permit issue?

This is something I’ve often asked myself too.  And I’m sure there’s a reason, I just don’t know or forgot what it is.

If it wasn’t for the internet or word-of-mouth, someone could go years living in Decatur and never realize that the weekly farmer’s market even exists. Unlike Morningside, which really is forced to use a parking lot for its farmer’s market due to lack of options, Decatur does indeed have a central greenspace for such things.  So why is it currently sitting on the precipice of raging Commerce Drive?

Oh and while we’re on this thread, I’d love it if they stayed open ’til 8p in the summer.
