Loose Tea Shop Opening in old “Wild Seed” Space Along East Ponce

Decatur Metro | November 4, 2011

Ann writes in that she had just come back from visiting with some of her new neighbors, Cozy Tea, around the corner at 225 East Ponce de Leon Ave in the Town Square Condo building.  She reports that it will be a “loose tea shop”.  A Decatur first, I believe.

Welcome!

No Sunday Sales Vote in DeKalb

Decatur Metro | November 4, 2011

Many Decatur residents are probably already pre-gaming for next week’s “Liquor Vote Tuesday”.  But across the city line in unincorp-ed DeKalb, residents will remain silent on the issue.  That’s right, there won’t be a Sunday liquor sales vote in DeKalb.

Rep. Mike Jacobs points this out on his website…

Conspicuously absent from the countywide ballot in DeKalb County is a referendum to allow Sunday sales of alcohol. I supported Senate Bill 10 (click for information), the legislation that enables local communities to decide this issue via public referendum.

Our neighboring cities of Chamblee, Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, and Atlanta will be voting on this question next Tuesday. If you are in unincorporated DeKalb, however, the county has yet to do anything regarding Sunday sales.

That means that regular Decatur haunts outside the city limits like Publix, Decatur Package Store, and Fiesta, will all refrain from alcohol selling on Sundays for the foreseeable future.  Which means that regardless of how Decatur votes on Tuesday, the only local option for picking up hard liquor on Sunday will continue to be your neighbor’s poorly concealed underground hooch cellar.

Patti Garrett Addresses Neighborhood on Sexual Assault in Winnona Park

Decatur Metro | November 4, 2011

In hopes of appeasing any remaining fears surrounding the reported sexual assault in Winnona Park on Halloween night, here’s a note that Decatur City Commissioner Patti Garrett posted on the Winnona Park list-serv a couple of days ago…

Again, due to the nature of the incident and the fact that a juvenile is involved, this post is closed to comments.

There has been much understandable concern about the recent reported incident in the WP playground area behind WP school so I thought it might be helpful to post the following information:

Staff of the City of Decatur Police Department continue to investigate a reported incident that occurred on the evening of October 31, 2011. Due to the nature of the allegations, the age of the persons involved and the on-going investigation, names and other details are not being released. The Police Department has indicated that based on information gained during the preliminary stage of the investigation, there is no reason to suspect that the incident involved a sexual predator or that the surrounding or adjacent neighborhood is at additional risk due to the reported incident.

Regards,

Patti Garrett

District 2 City Commissioner
