Loose Tea Shop Opening in old “Wild Seed” Space Along East Ponce

    Decatur Metro | November 4, 2011

Ann writes in that she had just come back from visiting with some of her new neighbors, Cozy Tea, around the corner at 225 East Ponce de Leon Ave in the Town Square Condo building.  She reports that it will be a “loose tea shop”.  A Decatur first, I believe.

    Welcome!

Add me to the yaysayers– I hope it’s like a cool, local version of Teavana (a store at which I regularly spend waaaayyy too much money)!

I am only interested in the quality of the tea, not its morals. ;-)

Yum, I hope it has some good sitting areas too.

If they sell tea and have WiFi as well as selling loose tea they could become an alternative to Java Monkey. Otherwise I don’t see great things. Although I do love tea. Loose tea. Even green tea.

Oh yeah!!!!! As long as they are reasonably priced, they can be a local alternative to my addiction to all things Market Spice out of Seattle.

Never underestimate the power of a good cup of tea.

See, here is an example of someone who asked two crucial questions: 1) Is this the kind of business that would appeal to Decatur residents? And 2) Is this a niche that isn’t currently being filled by another business in the area?

A lot of folks ask that first question, but seem incapable of asking the second one, which is how we end up with six frozen yogurt joints.

I think you are wrong about question #2. Currently, there are no shops in Decatur that sell a wide variety of loose leaf tea. There are shops that sell very limited amount. Dekalb Farmer’s market sells a decent amount of loose leaf tea at a great price, but the location is still outside the city limits, and you have to fight the crowds. I currently have to go to Zen tea in Chamblee to get loose leaf Puerh tea which is not available in any store near Decatur. I’m excited about this opening.

I think you may have misread lump’s comment. He was complementing them on both counts.

Ah. Indeed I did. Thanks for pointing out my error. My apologies.

As DM says, you’re preaching to the choir. I’m as thrilled about this as you are!

I don’t know what their plans are but here’s what I hope: a large variety of loose teas, custom blends, hot freshly brewed tea and a place to enjoy it. Maybe scones and crumpets, finger sandwiches. Tea brewing stuff: pots, cups, mugs, tea trays, tea towels. And wifi.
Any word about when they will open?

They said they hope to open in late November!

By Jove, that sounds absolutely spiffing.

        Perhaps we could have this:

Sounds nice I guess, but “tea” shops are going out of business in lots of areas. I wonder if they’ll have enough traffic to stay in business for a while.

This is a fresh idea around here, and I hope that it does. I look forward to being a customer.

I can drink coffee from anywhere, and grocery store tea does the trick in a pinch, but if I had easier access to good tea, I would buy that instead. And tea shops are usually pretty easy to grab gifts in. I hope they’re open by Christmas!

Sounds like a good fit for Decatur.

I’ll be happy as long as they’re not related to Teavana. Teavana bought my favorite tea source, Specialteas.com, and discontinued my favorite tea, “White Tip Earl Grey.” Though Teavana has a white Earl Grey, it’s not the same. If this new tea store has something comparable, they will become my source!
