Missing Dog Found By Concerned Oakhurst Resident
Decatur Metro | October 21, 2010This made my day.
Yesterday morning, Anne wrote me an email asking for a status update about a dog, Clara, who had possibly hit by a car on Tuesday morning in Oakhurst. She had personally looked for the dog that very morning down by the creek behind her house, and was curious of any progress that had been made. Unfortunately, I hadn’t heard anything.
Then that very same afternoon Anne and her son found the missing pup in their shed! Talk about kismet!
I’m happy to report that Clara has since been reunited with her owner thanks to the vigilance of neighbors.

That’s wonderful news! I’ve been enormously touched by the kindness of neighbors who helped us to corral our escapees a few times when we first moved to Decatur Heights. We long ago stopped the problem by adding extra fence latches for the “Houdini” dogs and reminder signs for various service reps, but we will be forever grateful to our fantastic, caring fellow Decaturites for their neighborliness.
Wonderfull. I worried and thought about this since your first report.
Good news!
Had the dog, in fact, been hit by a car?
From my understanding of it, no thankfully.
i think she may have been hit…her leg looked like she had been licking it quite a bit and she whimpered when her owner picked her up. they were going directly to the vet so hopefully clara is on the mend very soon.
Excellent!
Thanking you for posting the good news. That poor dog has been on my mind. Yeah for good neighbors. Decatur is a great place to live!
Wonderful! Thanks for sharing the news.
I think I’m stating the obvious here, but since no one here has addressed it; Why was the dog allowed outside without supervision?
I don’t EVER do this, but I’m going to have to pull rank and ask that we not get into this. There IS a reason and it’s an exceptional case, but the owner doesn’t want it brought up or discussed here. You’ll just have to trust me on this one.
Any other comments like this will be deleted, as they were in the previous post.
So glad this has a tail waggin’ happy ending! Yay for Clara & her person! Props to Anne & her son for being such determined pet detectives!
I LOVE DECATUR and DM-ers!
P.S. thank you for deleting that post — I saw it. As if she wasn’t feeling guilty and miserable enough already!
As someone whose pet went briefly missing a while back, this story touched me when I read it. In our case the lawn mower guy did not latch the back gate properly and she got out. She was found a short time later but it was pretty scary. No matter how a pet goes missing, I really sympathize for anyone in this situation. It completely sucks. I’m glad to hear Clara is back home!
The original post nearly brought me to tears, thinking about that poor pup, hurt and miserable, and her owner feeling frantic that she couldn’t find her. Soooooooo glad to know there’s been a happy ending! Thanks for the update, DM!
