Hi there, can you do a post asking the “Best Vegan Options in the City of Decatur”?
I’d like to know vegan specifically (not just vegetarian) because for instance, the Brick Store and Square Pub have veggie burgers but either have eggs or cheese in the patty’s so they’re not vegan.
My husband and I eat out a lot and we don’t want to get in our cars to drive anywhere, so we eat in the city of Decatur almost exclusively. We’re also strict vegans, so I’d like to hear about more options than our usual 2 or 3 restaurants we go to (EVERY SINGLE WEEK!).
I’m going to expand the thread a bit so folks can suggest other options, but hopefully we can help Cindy out!
Souper Jenny! Gazpacho & fruit salad are my favs right now.
Also LOVE Dolce Vegan in Kirkwood. Not Decatur but not too far. I am new to being vegan and it is tough!
Rainbow- YDFM has the best salad for the money- farm burger as a quinoa patty /add the salad and it worth pretty darn good- Lawrences bakes his falefels and has a whole wheat wrap – ardens just opened up at emory crossing and has a un-fried rice and a kale salad that are super- throw in the grand slam and catch an energy buzz- just visted Kale me Krazy in Inman park for a Vegan Wrap last week- small amd pricey but the onsite fresh pressed juice is worth the trip- doc cheys lettuce wraps are tasty but not available at the dragon bowl- victory has the “Beeter” but its on rye- chorizo tufo taco is great- just looked at the imperials menu and looks to have a vegan item … Lastly i will visit jimmy johns for a veggie un witch less the cheese ! That makes up 90% of my decatur vegan dinning – look forward to seeing others ideas and spots
Our favorite is Soul Vegetarian. It’s good if you eat meat or not.
Off the top of my head. Most of these are easy biking or walking from Decatur.
* Dulce Vegan in Kirkwood – excellent for breakfast/lunch
* Urban Pie in Kirkwood – has Daiya cheese
* Matador in Oakhurst – tofu tacos
* Lawrences in Oakhurst – excellent falafel, other veg dishes
* Revolution Doughnuts in Oakhurst – over half the options are vegan and marked as such
* Victory Sandwich in Decatur Sq – usually has 1-2 vegan options – knowledgeable staff can help you
* Raging Burrito in Decatur Sq – many options if you order without cheese or sour cream
* Figo Pasta on College Ave – several options
* Sushi Ave (2 locations) – love the tofu steak, various veg. rolls. Miso soup is not vegan.
* Chai Pani on Ponce – 3-4 vegan options and are marked as such
* Souper Jenny on Ponce – usually has a few vegan options
* Noodle on Ponce – pan-asian, has some vegan options
* Thumbs Up on Ponce – has a tofu dish, not 100% sure if it is vegan but seems vegan
* Yogurt Tap – has a non-dairy option, I’m pretty sure it is vegan
* Palookaville in Avondale has some vegan milkshakes
* Rainbow Grocery on North Decatur
* 7 Hens on North Decatur – build your own with tofu – seems vegan but not 100% sure
* Karvana in Oakhurst – usually has a vegan soup
* Burnt Fork BBQ on Church has a vegan dish with tofu
* Chipotle on Ponce
Awesome post, thanks.
Thanks for this list! I’m saving a copy for quick reference.
This list is the business!
The Mezcalito’s in Grant Park has a tofu taco that’s so good, I’ve seen carnivores order it instead of a meat version–just wish the Oakhurst location offered it.
I like R. Thomas Deluxe. It’s not solely vegetarian but has a lot of vegetarian options so if you happen to have a mix of vegetarians and omnivores, everyone can find something good to eat.
Sorry – I realize that’s not in Decatur. The heading says “Decatur/Atlanta” but the person who posed the question lives in Decatur and doesn’t want to get in their car during the week so, that would rule R. Thomas out. Maybe they can try it on a weekend.
Just because they’re vegans doesn’t mean they can’t take Marta…
We Vegans are actually capable of driving vehicles as well…crazy huh?
Capable is one thing. Wanting to is another: “My husband and I eat out a lot and we don’t want to get in our cars to drive anywhere.”
There are some good veggie/vegan options around town but have I ever mentioned that we need The Grit to open a location in Decatur???
Any of the southern Indian places on the East side of Decatur. Bhavan and Thali are my personal favorites.
Here’s the most complete list I have ever seen of vegetarian/vegan restaurants in the Atlanta area, including price levels and menu highlights: http://cracktheplates.com/atlantaveganguide/
🙂
(RIP Dough Bakery, which closed yesterday.)
I SECOND THE GRIT COMMENT! Also, Yami Sushi at North Decatur and Clairmont has several vegan options – we eat there practically weekly.
@Csheffie- I have often wondered about Yami sushi but I have yet to try it. What do you recommend? Favorite dishes?
A coworker took me years ago and I rarely eat sushi anywhere else! My favorites are the avocado and cream cheese roll (obviously not vegan) and the asparagus tempura roll (you’d have to ask to be certain the batter there is vegan). We also frequently order the teriyaki eggplant, teriyaki zucchini, and sweet potato rolls. There are a few more vegetarian options, but I don’t remember them at the moment. My husband’s and daughter’s favorite is the Fuji Maki roll, but it contains egg. We also eat the spring rolls; I think we asked to make sure they were vegan, but it was years ago so of course double check if you need strict vegan fare. Some of the soups are vegetarian, too, and there is a teriyaki zucchini platter that was also pretty good. I hope you get a chance to try it – we go there so often they know what we’re going to order! 🙂

Not gonna claim it’s the best, but Harmony on Buford Hwy is one of the more unique ones. Typical American-style Chinese dishes made with fake meat (seitan mostly, I think). That might not sound good, but I like most of their versions better than the ones with real meat, especially the sesame beef.
In Decatur, I’d recommend the Indian restaurant at N.Druid Hills and L’ville Hwy, Saravana Bhavan.
I think Saravana Bhaven is closing/has closed, which is good, because last time I ate there it was terrible. Hoping some better Indian veg place tries that spot next.
O that I had all these veg places to enjoy when I was a vegetarian kid/teen. How many meals of french fries or grilled cheese did I make back then? I survived on Subway’s Veggie Delight sub in college.
Definitely ask about the veggie burger at Farm Burger; it wasn’t vegan when I asked a few years ago (had some cheese in it, I think.)
Also, Chai Pani, Sobban and Bhojanic have some vegan items, and I think they have them clearly marked on their menus.
Absolutely best vegan dessert around: Chocolate Raspberry Mousse Cake at Southern Sweets.
