    Hi-Tech Gas Station Currently Closed

    Decatur Metro | October 13, 2010

    Owlish writes in…

Hi Tech service station [Gas 'n' Gulp zombie film location], corner of E Ponce & N Candler is closed with entrances roped off. Looks like everything has been moved out. Amusing note on the pumps.

Now does that mean it’s permanently closed?  Well, you’ll just have to determine that for yourself as I’m not going to assume anything about business closings anymore!

I’ll say that when I drove by the other day, I recall thinking, “It looks like they’re still stripping the place”, but there was still action going on in the garage bays, so I just chalked it up to modifications or something.

What does the “amusing note on the pumps” say?

Hi tech gas station joins suburban plaza and the bus lot behind chick-fil-a as one of three parcels I would most like to own in this city.

The Hi-Tech station is indeed a great location, but I suspect it would be hugely expensive to convert to anything other than a gas station. I don’t know for sure, but assume something would have to be done with the huge underground gas tanks if the premises was to be repurposed?

Having said that, weren’t the Leon’s and Taqueria Del Sol locations once gas stations? TDS is just a guess, as it just looks like a former gas station!

Leon’s, Taqueria del Sol, Watershed, the Universal Joint and the realty office at the corner of East Lake and Fayetteville in Oakhurst are all repurposed gas stations. Fellini’s is a rehab of the old Greyhound bus station but it wouldn’t surprise me if that building was a gas station at some point as well.

      Very curious, indeed.

I’ve been a repair customer of Mr. Han for many years because of the walkable location. Communication was always an issue, but he was dedicated to quality work. Always showed me the parts replaced, we would study the repair diagrams together, etc.

Sad to see him go. Spoke to the landlord as they were roping off the site — for any aspiring gas station owners, it’s for rent. Business was clearly getting slow over the past year. Now, we’re down to 2 gas stations in the city limits.

Any recommendations for basic repairs on an American car?
