Person Caught On Camera Stealing Mike Jacobs Yard Signs
Decatur Metro | October 13, 2010
DeKalb County State Representative Mike Jacobs wanted to find out who was stealing yard signs from the yards of his supporters. So he worked with constituents along North Druid Hills Road to set up security cameras at three separate locations.
This morning at 5am, the cameras caught the culprit. If you recognize the individual, Rep. Jacobs is asking you to send him a note at repjacobs@comcast.net.

All of my friends and acquaintances are in color. And few tuck in their shirts and wear belts. Even fewer are up before 5 AM.
There is some discussion underway at other blogs on whether that is a man. Most seem to think it is a woman with a short hair cut…and that those are exposed women’s underpants.
My money was on the Token Republican
Definitely a woman–you can tell by the hips. People should know better than to assume that someone in the Decatur-area that looks like this is automatically a male.
True dat!
That”s hilarious!
OK, OK. Fine. But can we at least all agree that it’s a person?
Doesn’t that remove the possibility of Sasquatch? I don’t think I’m ready to make that leap.
Maybe this is a larger conspiracy? I’m sure the AJC Reach will cover this in-depth.
Zombie?
First thing I thought when i saw the photo was “it’s definitely a female, or a male with some child birthin’ hips!”
someone from Dollar General corporate..
REALLY? How was that a PERSONAL attack on anyone? It was a joke! Wow, I will make sure to be super serious all the time from now on. We have got to learn not to take ourselves so seriously all the time. I have many, many good friends who go or have gone to Agnes Scott; it was a joke.
Making jokes about someone’s appearance – individual or group – can still be considered a personal attack. They aren’t limited to individuals.
Anonymity makes it so people don’t know if you’re joking or not, because they don’t have any context of YOU the person. So on a webpage, it just looks like a nasty slight against ASC students.
Well, you’re the boss, Boss. I just think it was an overreaction. I have seen much worse not get deleted on this blog.
I’m open to debate. Such as?
Well, without spending time trying to find specific examples, I have seen many disparaging remarks about republicans/conservatives, suburbanites, a certain landlord in Oakhurst and even someone calling someone else’s post “lame” (i find this one to be the most egregious)! All I wrote was “Might want to check the Agnes Scott Campus”. This could be interpreted many ways and you chose to interpret it in a negative way, which I find interesting….
Well, sometimes I do let things play out. For instance, if someone makes a derogatory remark about “Republicans” in the midst of a conversation with DEM, I know that he won’t stoop to their level and he can fight his own fights. Pulling that stuff is counterproductive for me, because I want people to follow his example.
As for the landlord thing, I definitely warned people about that the last time it happened in the DG thread (I can’t recall if I pulled the post)…but I’ve certainly pulled more than a few comments about landlords in the past, as they were in fact personal attacks.
Didn’t you also have a follow-up that associated ASC students with Sasquatch? How else do you interpret that? I’m not saying you meant any harm, but you can see how something like that easily gets out of control.
“Didn’t you also have a follow-up that associated ASC students with Sasquatch? How else do you interpret that?”
Haha, ok, I was hoping you forgot about that one!! I’m not sure I would characterize it the way you did, but point taken. I’m not upset you pulled it, I was just surprised.
Being likened to Sasquatch is a compliment in the Northwest. To each, their own. I approve of zealous monitoring of comments for even perceived slights because, if this blog started to degenerate into the nastiness of many other blogs, I think it’s appeal to rank and file Decaturites would go way down. The crazies might swarm to it, but not true locals.
Just to be clear, I really don’t delete or edit all that much anymore.
More than anything else, the ongoing civil conversation, cool heads and cold shoulders keep the crazies and trolls at bay.
I realize this is a conversation between A and B, and I should see…
But think of it more as a right of passage.
Many loyal daily readers/commenters here have been verbally warned and spanked, if not had a comment outright pulled.
You’re an official DMer now.
I hope that didn’t read like snark at DM, i meant it more as a joke at Wal. I guess I won’t be the Last Comic Standing.
Haha, I got it. And it’s not the first time a comment of mine has been deleted!
DM did you a favor. I read it. It was lame.
Ah, the irony….
We can’t all have a good sense of humor!
Or write jokes! :0)
Haha! Well played.
Now I’m curious. Write it again in pig latin and see if it gets through. Mums the word.
So, now we’ve stooped to disparaging the dubious language skills of swine? Cruel and thoughtless…
I’ll have you know some of my friends are swine.
Tusk tusk
Let’s get back to the actual sign stealing. It’s been (God help me) more than 40 years since I volunteered to work on a political campaign so these questions might be naive.
Does the campaign assign someone to steal the opponent’s signs?
Or is it generally the work of an over-zealous true believer? An aspiring Gordon Liddy type?
Does the campaign think that’s a better use of resources than actually communicating the positions of the candidate? Or is it a way to simply disrupt the opponent’s plan?
Does the presence or absence of yard signs influence your vote?
Does the theft of yard signs influence your vote?
I personally only ever vote for people who have signs. I think that it is the absolute best way to determine the qualifications of the candidate. If there ismore than one candidate for any position, I choose the candidate whose sign has the most colors. I consider this to be the single most important duty I have as a citizen.
If I intensely dislike a candidate, and I see a yard sign for that person, I will also become suspicious of any other candidate whose sign is displayed in the same yard.
It is sadly hilarious that someone stoops so low as to steal yard signs–do they dislike the clutter they represent, perhaps, rather than the actual politician? Or did the politician do them wrong, and they want some redress that satisfies their hurt ego?
Let’s see: Tuesday morning, 4:47 AM to recycling pick up, 10:00 AM. So perfectly Decatur.
looks like a girl with ink on her shoulder and from the elbow to the wrist
