Waffle House Museum Open Free to Public Tomorrow

Decatur Metro | October 24, 2008

UPDATE: Fellow Decatur blogger Rusty Tanton alerts us that he’s got pics and a real interesting report from the Waffle Open House.  Thanks Rusty!

The AJC reports that the very first Waffle House on E. College, which has been converted into a museum by the company, will be open and free to the public tomorrow from 10a-6p.

Let me just go on record to say that this whole restoration is very cool.  A little bit of lost local history has been restored.

I wonder how many people will now pull up for a bite, only to realize its a private museum with no real waffles.

Decatur Metro | October 24, 2008

SteveC pokes us with a reminder…

2008 Fall Electronics Recycling Day

Saturday, October 25 • 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Decatur High School Parking Lot
(Corner of N. McDonough Street and Howard Avenue)

I posted all the details a couple weeks back here.  Note that TVs are now accepted for $10 exact change (that means you can’t be showing up straight from the ATM with just $20s!).  Still no microwaves though.

Glennwood Pumpkin Sale/Escapade

Decatur Metro | October 24, 2008

Just a day after I noticed a poster for this sale in town and thought “I really should post that!”, Laura writes in with the details.

Glennwood Academy’s Great Pumpkin Escapade

The Scots use turnips, the Irish use potatoes, and the Brits use beets, but we Americans use gorgeous, orange pumpkins to make our Jack O’lanterns! And thanks to Glennwood Academy’s annual pumpkin sale, you will have a wide variety of those magnificent fruits to choose from this year. Besides the traditional carving and pie pumpkins, our buyers also hope to bring you Cinderella, pump-ke-mon and jack-be-little pumpkins, as well as a variety of gourds, including elegant swan gourds.

This year’s sale begins Friday, October 17th on Glennwood’s campus, and continues through October 30th. The sale will also travel to the College Heights, Clairemont, Oakhurst and Winnona Park campuses for sales on Friday, October 17th and Friday, October 24th at their release times.

Candy Voting Machine Gets AJC Spread

Decatur Metro | October 24, 2008

Moey might want to think about getting a security detail to keep away the paparazzi on Halloween night.

In a story first reported on Decatur Metro, the AJC now has an indepth piece on Moey’s candy voting machine costume and his mother “altmod’s” unhealthy obsession with the election. ;-)

UPDATE: Mindy says that she mentioned both DM and her partner that created candyvote.com, but neither made it into the article.
