The City of Decatur's Picasa Web Album

Decatur Metro | March 10, 2008

Have you seen this?

Moments ago, I stumbled across the City of Decatur’s Picasa Web Album.  Included in it are a couple Fire Dept. pics, shots from 2007 Electronics Recycling Day, and a most interesting, recent series showing Before and After pics of streetscapes and many downtown establishments that have been reborn in over the years.

Here’s a taste…Sweet Melissa’s

Before

After

Make sure to check out the whole album.   Some pretty shocking contrasts in there.

A Little Less Green

Decatur Metro | March 10, 2008

Scott reports that the trees along the median of the Courthouse Square turnaround in front of the Brick Store have been ripped up and hopes they’re just being replaced.

My guess is they’re being replaced as part of the Streetscape Improvements under the Bond Fund Projects, but can’t find a specific mention of this location.

Perhaps they were non-native trees? (like the infamous Bradford Pear)

If you have info, please comment or email me.

Decatur CD and Wuxtry In the Vinyl Spotlight

Decatur Metro | March 10, 2008

Retail sales of vinyl records were up 15% in 2007 vs. 2006 and our local music stores are benefiting.

Decatur CD and Wuxtry are featured in a new AJC article about how teens are contributing to vinyl’s comeback.

Shawn Mullins latest release, “Honeydew“, was for sale at the Attic this past weekend in LP/CD combo only. Now I have an LP and no player. I must admit that just having it in my possession is giving me the urge to go retro.

If you also want that warm and scratchy feeling (and you aren’t coming down with a cold) checkout your local record store. Perhaps on Record Store Day (April 19th), when Decatur CD is promising big things; including beer and Daniel Day Lewis.

It’s a random tangent sort of morning.

Things I Wouldn't Do…

Decatur Metro | March 10, 2008

1.  Take my little, yippy dogs to a children’s playground after dark and let them run around off-leash.

2.  Get stupid drunk at Shawn Mullins’ 40th birthday bash and, with his family in the audience, yell out “You went to college Shawn?!”

Just some things I saw around town over the weekend that made me shake my head.

Sober up folks.
