Decatur Festival News

Decatur Metro | April 8, 2009

Don’t let the dying azaleas fool you.  Festival season is upon us.

  • The Decatur Green Fest is less than a month a way!  On Saturday May 2nd, be ready a sample an endless array of green consumer goodies up on the Square, all in the name of the environment!  Green music will be provided by an array of green musicians throughout the day.
  • Dave at InDecatur notes that Decatur Beach Party tickets are already available online for $5 each on Ticket Alternative.
  • The Decatur Minute announces that its time to start designing logos for the “I Will Volunteer For Other Festivals Just To Volunteer For This Festival” Festival!  The winner gets their logo all over everything, $300 to pregame with, two tix to the Beer Fest, and two beer-soaked t-shirts (trust me, they will be).  So get to work!  Because I’m sure that Lauren has already noticed there isn’t a “you can’t win more than once clause.”

Your DeKalb Farmer's Market Recalls Pistachios

Decatur Metro | April 8, 2009

Creative Loafing reports that the farmer’s market has issued a voluntary recall of “ROASTED SALTED PISTACHIO WHOLE KERNELS”, connected to the whole pistachio salmonella scare.

So, this begs the question…does potential salmonella in my food justify a refund?  Or are all sales of potentially salmonella-laced pistachios still final? :-)

Thanks to Andisheh for the link tip-off!

House GOP Threw MARTA Under Itself

Decatur Metro | April 8, 2009

CL’s Thomas Wheatley does some class-act digging and finally gets an answer to the question “What the hell happened to the MARTA bill?”

The beans-spiller was State Representative Ralph Long III, who informed Wheatley that the House GOP used MARTA as a “political football” in committee in an attempt to gain support for their unpopular property tax freeze bill.  When Democrats still refused to back the bill, which would have royally screwed local gov’ts, the GOP tied up MARTA’s lifeline in committee.

Wheatley’s post is MUST READ for all the reasons stated above PLUS an alleged “Disney World” comment made by one GOP lawmaker regarding his level of concern for MARTA’s future.

And that’s not the end of it!  Wheatley promises more later.  My breath is officially bated.
