Tickets are $8 in advance, or $10 at the gate

Head to downtown Decatur on Friday, June 20 from 5-11 pm for our annual Beach Party. Celebrate the start of summer at the famous Ponce de Leon Beach with 60 tons of sand perfect for digging and sand castle construction. Kids will love the enormous inflatable slides and bouncy houses, and the boardwalk with all kinds of fun kid-appropriate games, sponsored this year by Circus Camp. Doug Brake and the Sizzle, Hiss, Pop Band will be on hand to entertain the young set. For grownups, Terry Lee and the GTs perform live on the plaza where there is plenty of room for dancing. The food court returns with funnel cakes, sweet treats and cold beverages. It’s a guaranteed great time for all ages!

Party with a purpose! Proceeds from this event, DBA’s largest fundraiser, help support free Decatur concerts in May and September along with many other popular events and activities that are offered free to the community.

    Decatur Beach Party Tonight!

    Decatur Metro | June 15, 2012

The Decatur Minute reminds us of tonight’s Decatur Beach Party along Ponce.   Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the door. Kids 3-12 are $5 each.  You can still purchase advance tickets HERE.

The beach party is the Decatur Business Association’s largest fundraiser of the year and helps support other events throughout the year in Decatur.  A bit more info from the Minute…

Please remember that no outside food or drinks are allows inside the festival gates-also no coolers or pets, sorry!

Finally, our Decatur Fire Department will be collecting canned goods and other non-perishable items for our local food banks. The summer is a tought time for those organizations so please bring us supplies to help stock the shelves. Drop your items in the big red barrels at any of the entry gates tomorrow.

Also, Patch has some cool photos of the sand on the Square as of this morning.  Neat shots!

Vote For Decatur’s Best Beach Party Window!

    Decatur Metro | June 1, 2010

Starting this Friday June 4th, you can vote for your favorite window display among the Decatur businesses participating in this year’s Beach Party Window Contest.

Between June 4th-June 18th, stroll by participating shops, press your nose up against the window and check out their beachy window displays.  If you like what you see, text the code found in the window to 80672.  The business with the most text votes wins.

Who’s participating?  Why that would be, Boogaloos Boutique, Cook’s Warehouse/ Sherlock’s Wine Merchants, Greene’s Fine Foods, Mingei World Arts, Peggy’s Boutique, Salon Red Kids, Squash Blossom, Steinbeck’s, The Seen Gallery, Universal Joint, Wild Oats and Billy Goats, and Worthmore Jewelers.

Got all that?  (A bit more info and a map of participating businesses HERE)

No word on what the winning shop might receive, but I hope it’s made out of sand!

    Decatur Beach Party Recap

    Decatur Metro | June 21, 2009

Though my Amanda Thompson-esque schedule sometimes keeps me from Decatur parties, we’re lucky to have plenty of folks out there, pro and amateur, documenting city events.

    • The AJC’s April Hunt has a neat, little profile of the folks that lined up to cart off the 90 tons of sand dumped on Ponce de Leon for Friday night’s Beach Party.  [Should we be concerned?  Cheryl Burnette sounds so excited about watching stuff disappear from Ponce, I'm afraid she might just start dumping all kinds of stuff in the street just for kicks.  90 tons of M&Ms! Parakeets!  Vidalia Onions!]
    • Over on his website, Josh D. Weiss has some of the best shots I’ve seen of the sealess beach event.  [h/t: InDecatur]
