Dine Out For Life Tonight

Decatur Metro | April 22, 2009

Carl notes that today is Open Hand’s “Dine Out for Life” night at participating restaurants across Atlanta.

Dine out at any listed restaurant today and between 20% and 100% of the day’s take to goes to Open Hand, who “continue to provide freshly prepared, home-delivered meals, nutrition education, counseling and therapy to homebound seniors and individuals who are struggling with chronic, critical or terminal disease in 17 Georgia counties.”

Among Decatur restaurants, Carl lists these as those participating: “Cafe Alsace, Watershed, Raging Burrito & Taco, Parker’s On Ponce, Carpe Diem, Feast, Taqueria del Sol, and Wahoo!”  Some heavy hitters in there.

For the full list of all participating Atlanta restaurants, click here.

Trinity Triangle Moves Parking Deck, Has Stupid Name

Decatur Metro | April 22, 2009

InDecatur has some great pics of the proposed Trinity Triangle development from Monday’s city commission meeting.

Apparently the project is before the commission again because the developer wanted to relocate the parking deck to face Howard Street (not sure where it was previously located.)   Dave reports that the commission approved the changes contingent upon improving the facade facing one-way E. Howard.

Dave also reports that the commission dislikes the proposed name for the project: “Cityville.”  And how can you disagree with them?

If we’re shooting for something banally generic, might I propose “Townland” or “Villageburg?”

Seriously, if you’re going to put up a throw away name like that, how about instead you do a little good community PR and let city residents name it?  Let them submit names and then put it to a vote.  As long as Stephan Colbert doesn’t get involved, it should be a cheap and easy way to show a little individual care for a project.

MARTA Hopes To Scratch Back

Decatur Metro | April 22, 2009

Playing catch up this morning…

First up, something that I’m sure has caught the eye of anyone that has a stake in Decatur’s Community Transportation Plan.

According to a report in the AJC, if the Atlanta Regional Commission succeeds in helping MARTA close its $25 million funding gap, everyone’s favorite transit authority promises to return the favor by using some of its stagnating $65 million in capital improvement funds to help fund development projects in Fulton and DeKalb that “complement transit.”

Wow.  That could be almost anything.
