Eyewitness Account of Fellini's Robbery

Decatur Metro | December 5, 2008

Sher writes in…

I was at Fellini’s when it happened. The main gunman literally fell in the doorway…looked strung out. As soon as he got to the register, I ran out the door and kept running until I saw someone on Sycamore and asked them to call 911. By then the police were on their way. Apparently, everyone started running out, but they didn’t fire any shots. It was really scary…there were families eating there.

Very scary.  I’m just glad no one got hurt.

Hopefully with this many witnesses they can locate and identify these guys.

Thumbs Up To Open in 2-3 Weeks

Decatur Metro | December 5, 2008

MisAngela provides us with an update…

Thumbs Up will be open in 2-3 wks. The interior demo/refurb is done, they just have to get everything cleaned up and all the furniture back in place. The neon is still there (boo!) but the tile is painted and the mirrors are gone. And they have some cute new light fixtures. -)

The owners are very nice and totally cool.

As for menu, it’ll be the usual Thumbs Up menu. Sorry, no Crescent Moon recipes. The heap dish is served – that was Thumbs Up’s dish in the first place. And there are other similarities, so don’t despair!

The paper is down from the windows, so stop by and take a peek. The new owners are excited to be in Decatur and look forward to serving you some yummy breakfast grub this month.

The elements are all falling together nicely for the opening, so it totally does look like it’ll be December.

Methodist-Affiliated Church Going Into Big H Space?

Decatur Metro | December 5, 2008

Paula writes in that the Oakhurst newsletter recently reported that a “Methodist-Affiliated Church” would be going into the Big H big-box.

Maybe now the Trader Joe’s rumors will cease.

335 Tidbits

Decatur Metro | December 5, 2008

Carl sends in a couple updates about 335 building businesses.

The first deals with the new Eyeworks in the 335 building…

The owners are from Manhattan and opted to open this business in our City due to its urban feel.  They consider themselves very fashion conscious and carry a variety of stylish frames.  For those passing by with their four-legged friends, the Optometrist’s wife bakes dog biscuits and are happy to share them with anyone that stops in.  They are also giving away multi-purpose contact lens solution to new visitors.  Their website is http://www.eyeworksdecatur.com/\

AND I forgot to mention that Eyeworks is offering a Grand Opening special of 25% off complete pairs of glasses (frames + lenses)

The second talks about Tastings new hours and latest offerings…

Like many local businesses, Tastings has also realigned their schedule.  Hours are now Mon-Wed 4PM-10PM, Thurs-Sat. 11:30AM-12AM, and Sun, 4PM-10PM.  They continue to offer $8 lunch specials (includes a soda) on Thursdays and Fridays from 11:30 to 3.  They are offering trivia on Tuesdays at 8 PM with the opportunity to win a $50 gift card.  They continue to offer half-price draught beer and $5 martini specials all day Friday and half-price house wine on Monday. Sign up for their newsletter to learn about weekly wine and beer tastings: http://www.awineexperience.com/newsletter.aspx
