Caribbean Harry's Coming to Decatur Square

Decatur Metro | December 2, 2008

Guess what’s taking over Birdi’s space?

That’s right!  Caribbean Harry’s!  Actually I don’t know much about it, other than what the sign said but I figured it deserved a couple exclamation points.

So what else did the sign say?  “Coming Soon.  Caribbean Harry’s.  Lunch and Dinner Bar.  Live Reggae Music.”

Yep…I think that was about it.

GA Senate Runoff Voting Lines

Decatur Metro | December 2, 2008

I haven’t gone to vote at my precinct yet, but I’m wondering what the Decatur voting lines are looking like.

My BFF Clark Wheatley reports no lines at his precinct this morning.

Annexation and 315 to Collide in One Giant Commission Meeting?

Decatur Metro | December 2, 2008

David reports over at InDecatur that the city commission recognized last night that both the 315 W. Ponce development and the annexation decision are scheduled to be decided on the very same night: December 15th.

And it doesn’t sound like there’s much that can be done to legally reschedule either.

I think Wile E. Coyote said it best:

Packed House For Annexation Public Hearing

Decatur Metro | December 2, 2008

So I caught the first hour of the annexation meeting on cable last night.  (Comcast we really need to talk about you cutting it short after only an hour)

The room was chock full of locals (not even much standing room from what I could see), many of whom opposed annexation and lived in the potential annexation areas…of what I saw, Judd Owen and Pat Herold were notable exceptions (in the first hour).

The room clapped and sometimes cheered for each anti-annexation speaker.  I only saw one guy stand up in support of annexation because he had concerns about traffic on N. Decatur Road.  This was a very different scene from the one this past January, when there was a more equal balance between both supporters and opposition.

I’d appreciate an update about the rest of the meeting (beyond the first hour) from anyone that stuck around for the whole night.

UPDATE: David over at InDecatur has an interesting late night set of clarification points from the commission.
