Premier Chrysler Jeep Dodge Closes
Decatur Metro | October 23, 2008Using the term “Decatur” loosely, the AJC reports that “Decatur’s” Premier Chrysler Jeep Dodge dealership up on Church (outside the city limits) has been closed “by a receiver at the direction of a Gwinnett County judge”.
Only the financials seem worse off than the auto industry right now. Cheaper oil ain’t all that helpful when people are worried about their investments and jobs. I have a feeling we’ll see a lot more carnage from autos before this is all over.
With that said, if you’re looking for a new ride, perhaps you’d like to buy a scooter?
Hmm… not so “Premier” after all. They weren’t there that long anyway.
Well, I hate to always be negative on my posts, but their service was abysmal. After a long protracted episode with them during which many things went wrong, we vowed never to go back. Wonder if their closing was because of service or just the industry woes in general.
Kind of leads into a conversation about where to get good, honest auto service around these parts. I’ve never gotten great service at a dealership in Atlanta. But I’ve started using Goodyear on Clairemont infrequently and don’t have any complaints.
My wife and a friend she sent there have always been pleased with Goodyear on Clairemont.
Intown Auto in the heart of Oakhurst are the guys you need to know! Worst thing I can say about them is they care too much, so sometimes they’re not the quickest game in town but I’ve never been disappointed in their ability to take care of my car.
My Favorite Mechanic is a Woman on Dekalb Avenue. Kerri and the rest of her team are great!
Intown Auto (Oakhurst) was part of the Oakhurst Wine Crawl last year, too — and they had the best cheese/wine combo of any of the businesses that particpated!
I’ve heard good things about Summit Auto (off E. Ponce, toward DeKalb Frmrs Mkt), and my daughter had a good experience with a hard-to-find place called Quantum Mechanics on Talley St. (behind Smith Ace H’ware).
I am taking my car to get the tires rotated tomorrow. At Intown. Gonna put my money where my house is!
Haaaaayoooooo!!!!
Our experiences with both Intown Auto and Goodyear on Clairmont have been positive. FWIW the Goodyear on Memorial Drive is owned by the same folks as the Clairmont store.
I had my wiper blades replaced at the Gresham Road Walmart recently and they broke my windshield in the pocess. It wasn’t noticeable for a couple of hours and they refused my claim.
a big big big thumbs up for Intown Auto. I’ve used them for over five years. The first honest mechanic I think I’ve ever met.
Using the term “Decatur” loosely? Maybe you real Decaturites ought to refund the municipal funding from these Decatur-but-not-really-Decatur areas you are so fond of dissing.
Yes… a scooter is a great alternative to all this. Glad to see it mentioned.
My experience–or rather my partner’s experience–has not been very good at the Goodyear at Clairemont. Every time she goes in, they try to charge her for something she does not need or they quote a price that is much higher than what they quoted me.
Whenever I show up, their tune changes (ironic because my partner knows more about cars than I do!). I ran into a similar situation a few years ago when my mom got me a few new tires for my birthday.
Maybe all that is unfortunately coincidental, but I do know that Intown Auto in Oakhurst has been nothing but marvelous. We’re sticking with them.
TheDec, I don’t understand your comment. What “municipal funding”?
Lain–we’ve also had no success with the Goodyear. We will try Intown Auto.
Lain – I’ve experienced the same thing at various places. My wife knows more about cars, but I still get all the respect. If only they knew…
TheDec, how about you get DeKalb to give the city of Decatur its fair share of HOST money ($8 million should do it) and then perhaps I’ll reconsider my damning inference that unincorporated DeKalb is “Decatur” in mailing address only.
Note, in their Waffle House announcement, the AJC does it again by saying its in Avondale Estates. Nope…again…unincorporated.
I took my car into Goodyear to fix a flat. Upon picking it up, they gave me a list of needed maintenance and repairs that totaled $1700. It all seemed legit though, so I had no problem with the suggestions. But my car is worth maybe $600 on a good day, so I passed.
Goodyear “repaired” my transmission so well that it dumped all its fluid and died two miles later. They wouldn’t even refund the repair. Plus they “repaired” my transmission even though I specifically told them not to.. still wouldn’t refund it.
Not too long before that.. they changed my oil and didn’t put the cap back on properly. My car dumped out all it’s oil within a couple of miles and nearly trashed my engine.
Then there’s the missing tire bolt… never did resolve that one, decided it was easier to just buy a new one than to argue with them..
No, I don’t go there anymore. Love Intown though (he’s a bit high on some things though … so if it’s a big job you might want to get a second estimate).
Premier Chrysler Jeep Dodge Closes.
The dealership was as of Oct 23 ,2008 some 17 Million dollars in debt. Many new cars owners are having some serious issues because ther trade in’s were not pay off, thus sticking the buyer with 2 cars to pay for, yet the trade in vehicle is now in some cases moved to auctions or sitting on the dealers used car lot.
I am one of those lucky people who purchased and traded in a vehicle. Many of us are screwed looking for some direction. If you know of any resources or contacts please email me at
Thanks
Yeah…we want our money….Burrell can you help settle this with your leadership?
I am one of the salespersons let go by recent Chrysler issues! Decatur will loose a great dealership. I was there for three years. There is always someone not happy with a dealership, or any business at that matter. How many happy Cingular customers versus un-happy customers. How many people will be filing for unemployment? Or resting on thier savings? Now how big are our complaints against the well being of others. Complainig is useless! Good mechanics or Bad salespeople? America 1, Fallen Economy 999! Which side you’re on! ENJOY!
