El Tesoro Restaurant Website Up But Lacking Info

Decatur Metro | February 6, 2008

Back in November, I reported that a Mexican restaurant called El Tesoro would be taking over the old Jake’s Ice Cream location at 129 Church Street. Well, since then I haven’t heard much and I can’t say I stroll down that part of Church all that often to check on progress.

But this morning I came across a link to the restaurant’s website! Excited, I clicked over to it expecting all kinds of info. Instead all I got was the graphic above. There are “menu” and “bar” links on the main page but they just lead to blank pages.

Update: In the comments section, Rus reports that El Tesoro currently plans to open on February 25th.

Decatur's Zocalo Now Closed?

Decatur Metro | February 6, 2008

A one sentence post in the “Closed Atlanta Restaurants” thread on the AtlantaCuisine.com forums has indicated that Zocalo’s Decatur location is now closed.   Anyone want to confirm?

If this is true, it will be the latest restaurant to first lose its liquor license and then subsequently close.

That side of the Square is clearing out.  First Square Roots, now Zocalo.

It should be telling to see how fast these places get taken over and reopened.

DeKalb Sends Most GA Voters to the Polls

Decatur Metro | February 6, 2008

I found this interesting…

Even though Fulton County (pop. 960,009) is home to 200,000 more people than DeKalb (723,602) over 11,000 more citizens voted in DeKalb County (148,887) than Fulton (137,728). That translates into 21% of the population voting in DeKalb, compared to only 14% turnout in Fulton.

The margins are even larger when compared to Gwinnett and Cobb County.

Is this just another indication of Obama’s ability to get out the African-American vote in key southern states and counties? Well if I had demographic data for the county I could tell you. But I don’t.

But looking at the entire state of GA, even Karl Rove is inclined to point out that its bigger than that. (Skip to 3:10 in the clip if you can’t stomach 3 extra minutes of Rove and Chris Wallace to hear his thoughts about “White Democrats in GA” voting for Obama)

h/t: The Daily Dish

Actually the breakdown here shows that its specially White Democrats between the ages of 18-29 that break for Obama in Georgia (by 20 points).

Should he win the nomination, it will be very interesting to see how Georgia votes come November.

Obama Beats Clinton 3 to 1 in DeKalb County

Decatur Metro | February 6, 2008

By now we’re all aware that Obama won GA handily last night with 67% to Clinton’s 31%,  while on the national level Clinton picked up more delegates.

But what about DeKalb County?

With all 193 precincts reporting, Obama took 76% of the Democratic vote to Clinton’s 23%.  In fact, Obama was similarly strong across all metro Atlanta counties, reflecting the national trend of his strength in more urban areas.

With Clinton and Obama still within 100 delegates of each other, we move beyond this ridiculous “Super Tuesday” to February 9th when Washington state, Nebraska and Louisiana weigh in.  I can’t find any polls on the later two, but this latest Survey USA poll from Feb 4th gives Obama a healthy lead in the Starbucks state.
