Local DeKalb Election Results

Decatur Metro | November 5, 2008

I assume no one needs my help to find DeKalb County election results, but just in case you haven’t had a chance to look yet, here’s a link.

Among the highlights…

  • The DeKalb County Commission referendum, which lets the commission not the CEO make the agenda, passed easily.
  • It looks like all of the state House incumbents in DeKalb will win reelection
  • Elaine Boyer held onto her county commission seat
  • Tom Stubbs, who seemed to have a lot of Decatur sign support, got crushed by Linda Warner Hunter 71% to 29%.
  • Georgia Constitutional Amendment 1 (Forest Preservation) looks like it’ll pass easily.  Right now Amendment 2 (Community Redevelopment) is close to passing with 97% of precincts reporting.  Amendment 3 (Infrastructure development) looks like it won’t.

Dunwoody, MARTA, and Other Election Results

Decatur Metro | July 16, 2008

From the oldest DeKalb city to the youngest, congrats to John over at Dunwoody North and all those North DeKalb peeps on their brand spankin’ new city of Dunwoody! I guess DeKalb County’s strategy of poorly constructed lawsuit threats and saying “It could be even worse than it already is!” didn’t really sway or inspire many people to vote “no” (only 19%). Who woulda thunk it?

In other news to the north, Gwinnett narrowly failed to give a majority backing to the non-binding MARTA question, split along party lines. Bet you can’t guess which party opposed it? But as the AJC points out, a near 50/50 split [UPDATE: Peach Pundit has the YES vote at 37% for Republicans] is a big improvement on the 3-to-1 defeat MARTA was repeatedly handed back in the ol’ 20th century.

And finally, in regards to all those important DeKalb County votes where actual people were concerned…we’re looking at run-offs. Jones vs. Martin. Ellis vs. Watson.

Obama Beats Clinton 3 to 1 in DeKalb County

Decatur Metro | February 6, 2008

By now we’re all aware that Obama won GA handily last night with 67% to Clinton’s 31%,  while on the national level Clinton picked up more delegates.

But what about DeKalb County?

With all 193 precincts reporting, Obama took 76% of the Democratic vote to Clinton’s 23%.  In fact, Obama was similarly strong across all metro Atlanta counties, reflecting the national trend of his strength in more urban areas.

With Clinton and Obama still within 100 delegates of each other, we move beyond this ridiculous “Super Tuesday” to February 9th when Washington state, Nebraska and Louisiana weigh in.  I can’t find any polls on the later two, but this latest Survey USA poll from Feb 4th gives Obama a healthy lead in the Starbucks state.
