MST3K's Date Advice

Decatur Metro | February 14, 2008

Cable & Tweed points to this hilarious old Mystery Science Theater 3000 clip in honor of the holiday, and its too darn funny not to repost here.

Potential Take Aways?  If your significant other doesn’t appreciate your V-Day plans or gifts, you might want to suggest taking them to a weenie roast.

Valentine

Decatur Metro | February 14, 2008

HamwithCam has dusted off the B&W film and posted a great pic of Decatur’s “Valentine” sculpture to recognize the day.

I see the day as an excellent excuse to post a little Shakespeare with little explanation.

Here’s Sonnet 55…

NOT marble, nor the gilded monuments
Of princes, shall outlive this powerful rime;
But you shall shine more bright in these contents
Than unswept stone, besmear’d with sluttish time.
When wasteful war shall statues overturn,
And broils root out the work of masonry,
Nor Mars his sword nor war’s quick fire shall burn
The living record of your memory.
’Gainst death and all-oblivious enmity
Shall you pace forth; your praise shall still find room
Even in the eyes of all posterity
That wear this world out to the ending doom.
So, till the judgment that yourself arise,
You live in this, and dwell in lovers’ eyes.

Century 21 Evacuates 335 W. Ponce Office

Decatur Metro | February 14, 2008

…and leaves a bunch of trash on the sidewalk. Uh…thanks?

Century 21 purchased local start-up “Dwellings” a year ago in an effort to increase its intown presence. At that time Decatur’s Century 21 office moved from the little house next to Watershed (which is still for lease today), into the Dwellings office in the 335 W. Ponce building. Now they seem to have moved off Ponce all together.

It seems unlikely that they have left Decatur entirely. Perhaps the stagnant real estate market has forced them to move to a new location with lower rent (and leave a heap of trash on the sidewalk).

If you ARE shopping for a home right now and want to keep it local, you might want to check out 9 Mile Trolley across the street (above Little Azio) or Avenue Realty over at East Decatur Station. These aren’t personal recommendations, just known options. Ultimately, its all about the agent not the company.

"Wolfy" Opera Opens at Theatre Decatur Tonight

Decatur Metro | February 14, 2008

The New Opera will present its first opera, “Wolfy”, this Thursday thru Saturday at 8pm (along with a 2pm matinée on Sunday) at Theatre Decatur.

Here’s a brief synopsis from the Theatre Decatur website…

Wolfy is a 90-minute opera about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, focusing on some of the poignant moments in his life and his relationships with individuals who were close to him. It is full of beautiful melodies that you will go home humming. Even if you know practically nothing of Mozart, you will thoroughly enjoy Wolfy. Audience members will become acquainted with the person Mozart was and feel a closer connection to the musical genius through his charming personality and charisma as presented in this captivating production.

Listen to audio clips from the show here.
