A resident wrote in a reported mail thefts reported in the northeast quadrant of Decatur.  These thefts come just weeks after a rash of mail thefts in the Lenox Place neighborhood.

We inquired with Decatur PD and they provided these details…

Decatur Police are currently investigating four reports of mail theft that occurred during the overnight hours on Oak Lane, Glendale Avenue, Sycamore Street and West Pharr Road.

Complainants have reported their mail being found strewn on the ground and in bushes.  In one case, the complainant retrieved their mail this morning and discovered an empty package, which contained a small jewelry item, left behind.  At this time, no other items have been reported missing.

Please promptly remove mail from your mailbox once it is delivered and if you observe someone walking through your neighborhood going to multiple mailboxes, call police immediately and provide a detailed description of the person, what they are wearing and what direction they are going.

Decaturish has a good report from last night’s Decatur City Commission meeting regarding the acceptance of a Parkwood neighborhood petition to have 76 homes annexed into the City of Decatur.

City Manager Peggy Merriss stated that staff would begin analyzing the impact of a potential annexation of the Parkwood neighborhood.

According to the Decaturish report, the school system has already held meetings with the neighborhood to discuss current student populations in the neighborhood.

The CW’s Vampire Diaries is filming around Decatur today, according to the City of Decatur’s Katie Abel.

In a note posted on The Decatur Minute this morning she details the filming locations around the city today:

• Trinity Street near Fire Station #1
• Thumbs Up Diner on Ponce
• Decatur First Baptist Church.

Ms. Abel states that if you are driving through downtown Decatur today, you may experience traffic delays in front of Thumbs Up on West Ponce.  (MAP)

Presented by the City of Decatur and Georgia Historic Preservation Division, the sixth annual Decatur Old House Fair is set for this Saturday February 9th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel and Conference Center at 130 Clairemont Avenue.

This year’s theme is “Form Follows Function”, which “explores the relationship between home improvement and historic charm through an array of DIY, sustainable living, maintenance and renovation tracks.”, according to a post on Atlanta Intown.

The exhibit area will open at 9a and seminars begin at 10a. Among the topics being presented/discussed this year:

• A wood window workshop
• The Architecture and Career of Leila Ross Wilburn
• Creating a Maintenance Plan for Your House
• Creating a Master Plan for Your Landscape
• Reviving Old House Chimneys and Fireplaces
• Plumbing Pitfalls in Older Homes

At the conclusion of tonight’s meeting, the Decatur City Commission unanimously voted to postpone a vote on changes to the tree ordinance, which they had previously said would be taken up for a final vote at the beginning of March.

Commissioner Patti Garrett, who proposed the motion to delay the vote, also added that the City Commission would hold a work session on the original vote day in March as the next step forward.

In related news, the commission also voted unanimously to declare February 21st Arbor Day in Decatur.
