Decatur PD: Keep Eye Out For White Chevy Tahoe

Decatur Metro | February 17, 2014

From Decatur PD…

On 2-14-14, there were two additional burglaries reported to APD.  One on Tupelo Street between 9 am – 4 pm and one in the 2700 block of Hosea L. Williams Boulevard between 8:30 am – 5 pm.  A neighbor of the victim of the burglary in the 2700 block of Hosea L. Williams Boulevard later reported seeing a white SUV near the victim’s residence between 4:30 – 5 pm.  A community member has since reported seeing a white Chevrolet Tahoe displaying GA tag PDI4825 in the 3rd Avenue area.  This is one digit off from what was previously provided and appears to be the correct tag number.  Please continue to look out for this vehicle and call police immediately if you see it in the area.

New Mixed Use Development Planned for Scott Boulevard Baptist Church Site

Decatur Metro | February 17, 2014

The Medlock Area Neighborhood Association website has a new, extensive post by the “Cross Neighborhoods Committee” detailing a new plan from Fuqua Development to develop the site as…

“a walkable, new urbanism-inspired development that includes a 5-story (250 unit) apartment building angled into the corner of North Decatur Road and Scott Boulevard (Figure 2). The building features high quality materials and was designed to maintain a landmark presence on the corner. The building will include 2,000 square feet of street-front retail space on North Decatur Road, which will house a neighborhood-oriented space such as a coffee shop.  This development will also include a parking deck for tenants with a small portion of parking allocated to serve the commercial space.”

In addition, the committee lists a series of conditions and off-site improvements which have been part of the discussion with Fuqua if the plan were to move forward and the committee decided to support the plan.  (They are waiting for neighborhood feedback before deciding.)  According to the post the list of conditions/improvements include, but are not limited to:

CSD Looking To Use Elementary Schools as Collateral to Secure Loans to Expand Renfroe and DHS

Decatur Metro | February 17, 2014

Among the items on tomorrow night’s Decatur City Commission meeting, giving up the city’s interest in the city’s elementary schools so CSD can use the schools as collateral to secure loans through the Georgia Municipal Association to expand Decatur High and Renfroe Middle School.

Decaturish has the details and background…

Under the proposed financing agreement, CSD would transfer title for Clairemont, Glennwood and Oakhurst Elementary Schools to the Georgia Municipal Association. GMA would then sign a lease with the city school system. This lease agreement will be the basis for borrowing $17.5 million to pay CSD’s expansion. Once the school system repays the loans, ownership reverts back to the school system. If CSD defaults on its debt, it could lose ownership of the schools.
