Decatur City Commission Scheduled to Vote on Parkwood Annexation This Evening

    Decatur Metro | April 21, 2014 | 10:48 am

If you click over to the Decatur City Commission’s agenda for this evening, you’ll see that the Parkwood annexation is on the agenda for a final vote this evening.  As Decaturish notes this morning…

The Parkwood Annexation would bring 77 parcels into the city limits, 16 of which already are partially in the city limits. The annexation would also include a 3 acre green space, Parkwood Park. …. If the annexation is approved on Monday, it would become effective July 1, according to a draft of the ordinance published on the city’s website.

Parkwood Annexation Public Hearing and Tree Ordinance Update This Evening

    Decatur Metro | April 7, 2014 | 10:23 am

The Decatur City Commission has scheduled its public hearing regarding the Parkwood neighborhood’s request for annexation during this evening’s meeting.

The commission recently completed and made public a report that estimated the cost of annexing the neighborhood over the next 5 years.  While the city’s costs were minimal in comparison to tax revenue, the school system projections showed increases in student populations over the first 5 years.  The report estimates that initially 14 new students would be added to the school system with the annexation, though those projections rise in subsequent years.

The commission also has a “tree ordinance update” on the agenda during a 5:30p work session.  UPDATE: City Planner Amanda Thompson tells us that the city will present the Commission with the revised tree ordinance based on the feedback given by the Commission in March.

City Commission Refers Parkwood Annexation Petition To Staff For Review

    Decatur Metro | February 4, 2014 | 2:44 pm

Decaturish has a good report from last night’s Decatur City Commission meeting regarding the acceptance of a Parkwood neighborhood petition to have 76 homes annexed into the City of Decatur.

City Manager Peggy Merriss stated that staff would begin analyzing the impact of a potential annexation of the Parkwood neighborhood.

According to the Decaturish report, the school system has already held meetings with the neighborhood to discuss current student populations in the neighborhood.
