Decatur Commission to Vote on Parkwood Historic District This Evening

    Decatur Metro | July 7, 2014

parkwoodPrior to being annexed by Decatur, the Parkwood Neighborhood in unincorporated DeKalb County was within the Druid Hills Historic District.  After the neighborhood was annexed into Decatur, many neighborhood residents requested to retain their historic designation according to a note to the City Manager from Planning Director Amanda Thompson.

Decatur’s Historic Preservation Commission took up the application at their June 30th meeting, according to Ms. Thompson’s note and the Decatur City Commission is set to vote on it this evening.

According to the designation report, the proposed district “is bounded by West Ponce de Leon Avenue, the railroad, East Lake Road and includes West Parkwood Road, East Parkwood Road, and 5 parcels on Parkwood Lane.”

Decatur Receives More Annexation Requests, Will Consider Large Parkwood Annexation in April

    Decatur Metro | March 17, 2014

The annexation requests keep rolling in.

There are two new annexation requests on the Decatur City Commission’s agenda for this evening.

The first is a partial parcel annexation in the Parkwood neighborhood.  The second is an annexation request for seven parcels along Conway Road, including the Waldorf School at 1151 Conway Road.

Also of note, annexation-wise, it looks like the Decatur Planning Commission is scheduled to take up the larger scale annexation request of the Parkwood neighborhood at their next meeting on Tuesday, April 8th.  Their agenda is included in tonight’s Decatur City Commission meeting packet.

City Commission Refers Parkwood Annexation Petition To Staff For Review

    Decatur Metro | February 4, 2014

Decaturish has a good report from last night’s Decatur City Commission meeting regarding the acceptance of a Parkwood neighborhood petition to have 76 homes annexed into the City of Decatur.

City Manager Peggy Merriss stated that staff would begin analyzing the impact of a potential annexation of the Parkwood neighborhood.

According to the Decaturish report, the school system has already held meetings with the neighborhood to discuss current student populations in the neighborhood.

Parkwood Neighborhood Seeks Annexation Into Decatur

    Decatur Metro | February 1, 2014

Decaturish has a great, in-depth article on an annexation request included on the Decatur City Commission’s agenda for next Monday, so I won’t duplicate efforts.

The request is being made by residents of the Parkwood neighborhood, which has long been bisected – in many cases right through the center of properties – by the Decatur city line on the west side of the city (Google Map).  There’s a map showing the city line running through the neighborhood on page 5 of their submitted petition.

Anyway, back to the Decaturish article.  I’ll just get you started…

A group of Parkwood neighborhood residents wants the city of Decatur to annex their homes.

Andy Vocaire, spokesman for the Parkwood Neighborhood, said homeowners filed a petition with the city last week.

The city posted a copy of the petition on its website. To read it, click here.

City Commissioners will consider accepting the petition at their  Monday meeting. If the annexation effort is successful, it could add 76 homes to the city of Decatur.
