    Imagining Atlanta 2010

    Decatur Metro | October 5, 2010 | 2:55 pm

In 1910, Greater Atlanta Magazine imagined that Peachtree Street would look like the above in 2010.

I’m not sure what’s weirder: the giant birds on columns or the space-age Eiffel Tower.

From the Atlanta History Center’s Facebook Page.  They have some other pretty interesting historic photos/drawings on their Wall.

perhaps the birds/columns are from the city logo?

apparently we weren’t supposed to have any vegetation! where are the parks, green spaces, tree-lined streets?!

i guess they forgot to consult Olmsted before conjuring up the future. :)

That is one mighty fine looking phallus. I like the blimps/sail boats… I guess those are “buses”

I think it’s cool that they imagined high density and street cars. What a concept.

Peachtree Steampunk. Is there a poster of this? I love dirigibles.

I have to say those buildings look much prettier and more attractive than a lot of the stuff around now.

I want the poster too. Has sort of a psychedelic feel to it.

They never envisioned the connector going through downtown.

I think that’s the connector going *above* downtown.

yes, yes. I know. Christa already pointed it out to me. Luckily my poor short-term memory is well-documented.
