It was actually between Garden and Lamont. Looks to be almost cleared now. We appreciate the quick response from the fire and police but this kind of thing is just unacceptable. You’d think with the amount of taxes we pay they could just go ahead and proactively cut down all the trees so that our rush hours remain arborally unencumbered.

I did. I guess I’m as good at satire as this chick:

Good grief! Can’t believe folks didn’t get the humor in it– having to disable the comments?!? Did you read her follow-up after all the abuse that was heaped on her?

Obviously satire, but it seems as if she’s ridiculing a world that doesn’t exist. I earned my undergraduate degree almost 20 years ago, and I can’t remember a single woman who was there to hunt a husband. Well, there was one Jesus freak, but everyone laughed at her. To be fair, I didn’t attend UGA, but I can’t imagine kids down here are so different. She is making fun of people who assume women attend college to get a man, and women who might do so, but it just seems so irrelevant. Then again, the poor thing is just a kid. She’s probably going to shoot at bigger, funnier targets as her writing matures.

When I taught college-level freshman comp 15 years ago, many students couldn’t tell an opinion piece from a straight news article…Apparently things aren’t exactly heading in the right direction!
