Looked like Winnona Park was off to a great start, College Heights was in full swing, my Glenwooder rode her bike in so I didn’t see her off, and my first-day-of-high schooler walked in so I didn’t see her off either. But they were all really excited! It’s going to be another great year.
My Winnona Parker had a good morning, always fun to see the first time K parents lose it during the WP opening ceremonies
First time with two different schools as we now have a Glennwooder too…fun managing two schools! Twice as much paperwork and double the assembly nights now
College Heights was lively to say the least.
Kiddos with their back packs.
Dads with their cameras.
Moms with tiny little tears in their eyes.
Hard to believe my baby girl is starting preK. Blows my fricking mind.
When my oldest started K at WP last year, I’ll never forget the sight of him walking away from me into the school, his big backpack hanging off his fragile little back, new tennis shoes shining in the light, skinny little legs taking him into the unknown…
My sincerest thanks to Greg Wiseman, the staff and teachers at WPE for helping my little boy transition so successfully into student life.
No Haikus for me. Just relief that the marathon summer of camps, playdates, trips to the pool, trips out of town and "I'm bored!" has come to an end. Kiddles went off happily to Winnona and Renfroe this morning.
Now, where did I put that box of bon-bons and the TV remote?
Took the kids to school on one of the “safe routes”.The conditions on the sidewalk along Commerce towards College were so bad that my daughter crashed hard due to the overgrown brush. Her face Just missed a signpost sticking out of the middle of the sidewalk, Safe routes to school my ass! Does anyone from the city actually look at these walks?
Thanks for the kind words about Winnona Park. The first day was as smooth as I can remember. A few kindergarten tears at first that turned into smiles within minutes. I wish I could say the same for their parents.
It was a bit hot under our pavilion in the AM, so I decided to cut our opening Community Circle short. Kids were busy learning the routines and getting to know one another during the day. Lunch and dismissal went well for the first day s well. No Lost Students!!!
Can you tell us what the CSD is planning as far as utilizing the CDC’s guidelines for prevention and control of the H1N1 Virus (Swine Flu)? See link below for CDC’s guidance.
I’ve looked on the CSD website and can’t seem to find any information at all about this.
To Slappy and everyone else that’s written in about swine flu,
Just FYI…I’ve contacted CSD about what their plans regarding H1N1, and hopefully will be an official response from the superintendent’s office soon. I’m assuming CSD will want to speak with one voice on this one, as opposed to getting a response from individual principals.
And this may be a shifting plan as the cases occur, cases and deaths are evaluated, the vaccine is evaluated, and recommendations from the CDC and the State about vaccination, treatment, and control measures are put out, revised, and updated. No one knows yet how flu season will play out this year. But the basics are always a good idea–lots of handwashing and keeping sick kids home. This might be a good year to suspend the award for perfect attendance–kids shouldn’t be lobbying to go to school when sick so they can maintain a perfect record. And it’s a good year for parents to heed those teacher requests for more hand sanitzer!

I heard there was a wild chicken on the loose at College Heights

Clairemont: Stuffed to the gills; loud because of all the parents in the lobby; kindergartners about to have the best year of their life
Renfroe: Calm, cool, collected with Mr. Roaden in the middle of the halls overseeing it all
Idea: Haiku contest describing the schools this morning?
Poor rigid lil' boy
off to pre-k shaking
you'll do fine my son.

That’s almost a Haiku isn’t it?
Now where did I put
That doggone box of bon-bons
and the TV remote?
lunch from home: the bane

Nachos today, kids?
tasty, nutritious?
pizza, texas toast for lunch?
no carb left behind.
Working Parents: Harder?
Keeping up with summer camps?
Or kids daily homework?
Clairemont chaotic
Renfroe cool, calm, collected
How do children feel?
kindergarteners
they get smaller every year
or is it just me?
oakhurst tradition
“boo hoo” breakfast on first day

glennwood fifth grader
learning cottages are cool
he’s so old school now
hours of silence
no tv, no squabbling kids
year round school sounds good

The kids came home HOT and EXHAUSTED! The youngest fell asleep in the car on the way to swim practice. Early bedtime tonight…

Not necessarily worried, but curious…
Thanks

Four kids, four schools now
Could have had three at Glennwood
But those were the days
The benefit now:
Having known Mr. Wiseman
Super principal!
