Tastings Is NOT Closing
Decatur Metro | August 6, 2009There’s a rumor floating around this morning that Tastings: A Wine Experience is closing.
Owner Kelly Resignola tells DM the rumor is not true, and that she is grateful for the steady business they have been maintaining.
Sounds like a good reason to stop by for a drink.
I’m glad they’re hanging on, but as an ex-customer, I’d like to offer them a tip: cut prices. The prices of their wines are just outrageous. It’s a great concept and a fun place, but just way too expensive.
Hello DEM,
Not sure when you were last in, but since the economy turned last fall, we have adjusted our inventory. For the last 9 months we have consistantly had 40 wines at under $10 per glass. I think you will find that price comparable to prices of good wines by the glass in other places around Decatur. Please come by and see for yourself.
Thanks for the response. Admittedly, it has been awhile. I was so turned off by the prices the last time that I have not been back. If you’ve made them more reasonable, I’m happy to come back and try it out.
Hey DEM, give Tastings another chance; get on their mailing list for info about specials. Friday night 5 buck martinis are swell, the Tuesday BOGO flatbread pizzas and dicounted house pours are great, and there are now plenty of good economical wines in the machines. Chef Larry does wonders with the convection oven.
I like it there quite a bit…but agree with DEM. It would be nice if there was a selection of cheaper wines by the bottle. I rarely go in to dine, but buy bottles quite a bit as it is convenient to walk to…but it would be nice to find a bottle under 10 bucks.
My pallet is not that sophisticated…
That being said, the few times I have eaten there it was great! Like it alot. And every bottle I’ve had has been great as well….and while I wont say it was overpriced (I dont think it was), I’ll say it was more than I would like to spend.
also…the staff is always very nice…
I think that tastings is a great asset to the community. Great food, great wine, and consistently great service too. Still, I wish that two or three of those electronic pours had a scotch, gin, and vodka. Something to cleanse the palette between wines. Bigger tastes lead to bigger spending. I also wish there was a chance that I could “win” a full bottle on every taste, with a bit of a gambling aspect for added excitement.
