December Crime Report: Zucca Has TV Stolen

Decatur Metro | January 8, 2009

They aren’t even open yet and according to the December Crime Report put out by the city, Zucca Pizza had a flat-screen TV stolen last month!

Summarizing the report, there were 24 burglaries in the city during the month of December. The southwest zone experienced the most with nine, followed by “northwest” (which I believe includes most of downtown) with six. I don’t know if its any consolation, but only 10 of those 24 burglaries were deemed “forced entry” according to the email.

The detailed list of each burglary can be found after the break. If you’d like to receive this data every month too, email Juanchella Francis at Decatur PD to get on the email distribution list. Juanchella.Francis[at]decaturga.com Read the rest of this entry »

Tastings Lowers Prices on Wine

Decatur Metro | January 8, 2009

Tastings’ Deb and Kelly write in…

Our customers have spoken and we have listened….for the new year we have lowered the tasting prices on all of our wines.  In addition, in recognition of the trying economic times we all find ourselves in, we have reallocated our inventory to concentrate more on the high quality yet reasonably priced wines.  Our current selection features over 17 wines by the taste for $2 or less and 24 wines under $10 by the glass.  Of course, we will still carry the mid to high end wines for those times when you want to indulge and taste a wine that would not be offered by the taste, or even by the glass, in a restaurant.

We will continue our weekly specials:  Monday – 1/2 price house wines and buy one get one free pizza, Tuesday – Trivia – $30, $20 and $10 tasting cards as prizes, Wednesday – $15 wine tastings, and Friday – $5 martinis and 1/2 price draught beer.

City Still Seeking Ideas For Rec Center Master Plan

Decatur Metro | January 8, 2009

Dan Magee writes to all the Decatur blogs, asking us to help spread the word that the city is still seeking imput into the Decatur Recreation Center Master Plan.  Around 50 people attended the first meeting back in mid-December (a detailed report of that meeting – complete with pics – can be found on the city’s website), but the city still wants to give those that couldn’t attend a chance to chime in.

Here are the details, as relayed by Dan…

The City of Decatur is developing a master plan to direct future improvements to the city’s 50 year old recreation center. We invite you to think creatively and submit your ideas to the questions listed below. Forward your answers to or or mail to Lyn Menne, City of Decatur, P.O. Box 220, Decatur, GA 30031.

Please feel free to spread the word to other city residents. Also, we want to hear from city residents of all ages, so feel free to ask your teen or pre-teen to complete a survey.

After the jump – questions the city is looking to have answered… Read the rest of this entry »

Mayor Floyd One of 100 Most Influential Georgians

Decatur Metro | January 8, 2009

…according to Georgia Trend magazine.  Here’s the blurb.

Floyd, who operates his own blogsite (www.billfloyddecatur.com), has been a leader on Decatur’s political scene since being elected to the city commission in 1991. Since 1998 he’s served as mayor of one of Georgia’s most progressive small cities. Most recently, Decatur has been considering annexation (increasing from 4 to 5 square miles) and developing a local, organic, urban farming program.

Not really a much of a bio, but when you have to write up 100 blurbs I guess you have to limit your facts to things easily found online.
