Decatur Police Alert: Two Sets of Suspects Flee From Police, Burglary on East Lake Drive

    Decatur Metro | July 10, 2013

At this point, you know what these are and where they come from.  From Sgt. Jennifer Ross…

On Monday, July 8, 2013 at approximately 3pm, a Decatur officer in an unmarked vehicle observed a dark grey Dodge Ram pick-up being driven by a black male in his mid-teens backing into a driveway in the 300 block of Second Avenue.  The officer circled back to check on the vehicle and residence due to recent burglaries and the vehicle was gone. While checking the residence, which was secured with no signs of a break-in, the officer observed the vehicle drive back by and flee the area at a high rate of speed upon seeing the officer.  A pursuit was not initiated. It was determined a vehicle fitting that description had recently been reported stolen to the DeKalb County Police Department. A grey 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 displaying GA tag #BTP0473, with a large gold “GT” logo sticker on the center of the tailgate.  The house and driveway were not obscured and there was a very vocal dog inside of the house.

At approximately 7pm, a caller reported arriving home in the 200 block of East Lake Drive and hearing a faint audible alarm that he found was coming from his neighbor’s house.  Officers discovered the rear French doors forced open and a large television missing.  The rear driveway was obscured by the house.  The owners have a dog that was not home at the time.

On Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at approximately 11:20 pm, a Decatur officer was stationary in the rear of the new neighborhood on Clarke Hill Street off Midway Road when he observed a green Hyundai Santa Fe occupied by two black males who appeared to be in their mid-late teens entering the complex. They abruptly fled the area upon seeing the police.  A pursuit was not initiated.  Officers located the vehicle crashed and unoccupied on a nearby side street.  The vehicle was previously reported stolen to the DeKalb County Police Department.

Decatur Police Alert: Recent Daytime Burglaries in Winnona Park/Oakhurst Appear To Be Related

    Decatur Metro | June 21, 2013

Decatur PD’s Jennifer Ross sends along this alert…

The Decatur Police Department is currently investigating a series of day time burglaries in the Winnona Park/South Candler Street/Oakhurst areas that appear to be related.  The burglaries have occurred as follows:

    • May 30th – 500 block of South Candler Street
    • June 2nd – 600 block of South Candler Street
    • June 3rd – 500 block of Oakview Road
    • June 7th – 300 block of Mimosa Drive
    • June 9th – 2500 block of Midway Road
    • June 17th – 200 block of East Davis Street
    • June 18th – 300 block of Kirk Road & 200 block of Avery Street
    • June 19th – 100 block of West Hill Street

All homes were unoccupied at the time of the burglary and entry was made by forcing doors and windows.   The majority of the homes targeted have notable foliage, driveways with inclines or driveways that continue behind the home or rear alleys which all provide concealment for suspect vehicles.  The suspects are taking electronics such as large flat screen televisions, laptops and jewelry.  Many of the televisions would require the use of a vehicle to transport.  Three of the nine homes targeted had alarm systems.  One alarm was bypassed by cutting the power to the home, one alarm was activated and nothing was taken from the home and one alarm was activated and only items in the room that was initially entered were taken and the rest of the home was undisturbed.

In one case, a witness reported seeing a black male flee the scene in a white van.  In one case, a witness reported seeing four or five young black males flee the scene in what was later determined to be a vehicle stolen out of Dekalb County.  In one case, a neighbor later reported seeing an unknown vehicle at the victim’s home, but police were not called until much later.

Decatur Police Rush To Burglarized South Candler Home

    Decatur Metro | February 12, 2010

    Around 3:20pm, Daren reported…

Not sure what it is, but every cop car in Decatur just blazed down S. Candler. They were moving very fast, considering conditions.

    Maybe 10 minutes ago.

Deputy Chief Keith Lee replied to DM with the details…

We received a report from a resident on South Candler that they returned home and found their home burglarized. The homeowner believed the suspect was still in the house, so it was dispatched as a burglary in progress. Responding officers searched the residence, but the suspect was not present. The home had been burglarized.

December Crime Report: Zucca Has TV Stolen

    Decatur Metro | January 8, 2009

They aren’t even open yet and according to the December Crime Report put out by the city, Zucca Pizza had a flat-screen TV stolen last month!

Summarizing the report, there were 24 burglaries in the city during the month of December. The southwest zone experienced the most with nine, followed by “northwest” (which I believe includes most of downtown) with six. I don’t know if its any consolation, but only 10 of those 24 burglaries were deemed “forced entry” according to the email.

The detailed list of each burglary can be found after the break. If you’d like to receive this data every month too, email Juanchella Francis at Decatur PD to get on the email distribution list. Juanchella.Francis[at]decaturga.com Read the rest of this entry »
