The Grange Now Open For Lunch
Decatur Metro | October 21, 2008Jen told me this last week, but it completely slipped my mind. Luckily, Carl has a better short-term memory…
They are now open for lunch! Hours are:
Sunday to Thursday 11.30am-12 midnight (kitchen closes 9.30pm)
Friday & Saturday 11.30am to 2am (kitchen closes 10pm)
Weekend Brunch from 11.30am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday.
I think The Grange does a great job of providing good food and beer in a nice place with good service all at a decent price. It is AUTHENTIC Irish food served there, with some American additions. Their Irish food has not been altered to appease the American taste bud….it is the real deal! I have seen some pretty critical reviews of this place, and I simply don’t get them. It isn’t perfect, and they are altering things to improve as they learn what exactly folks want and need. I find the food good, the service good, the prices good, the location great, the owners are nice folks, and the portions are just right. It amazes me how everyone thinks they are a food critic and wants to run places out of business. Long live The Grange in a thriving downtown Decatur!
Amen Kenneth. I agree with you on every point.
I’ve been twice and both times the food was really bad. Is authentic Irish food cold? Rubbery? Doubtful, but I’ll give them another shot, food-wise, until I go for the drinks only. The atmosphere is good and the drink selection decent. I like having a bar I can walk to that doesn’t skew too yuppie/gentrified-hipster, but just because it’s in Decatur doesn’t make it good. I think the owner seems like a nice guy, but the waitress who waited on my party and me last time was mildly rude and uninterested in serving us.
Just my two cents. I really don’t want to run anyone out of town, and I’m sure most Decaturites don’t either. Our restaurants are still hit-and-miss, but the overall quality of selection has increased quite a bit lately. I’m willing to give them time, but lets keep the pompoms in the locker until they’ve really proven themselves.
No one is waving pom poms, but also not casting stones. I have been several times, and have been satisfied each time. Each person may have had a different experience. Had the prices been expensive (like The Angel), food just ok, and portions small, or waitress rude, perhaps my opinions would be different. I think for what you get, it’s a breath of fresh air to eat and drink somewhere in Decatur and not feel like you just paid your mortgage. Plus with the great patio, free parking and cold beer, a decent bite to eat at a fair price and a pleasant server just makes it even better!
I’ve been three times since I got back into town … I love it so far. Just being able to quickly walk over for a beer is great. I hope they stay in business!
I have to agree with Begen, I’ve been just once and the food was so bad that I can’t bring myself to return. I was embarrassed that I had convinced my friends to join me. My beer was good, the service was fine, and of course there was the obligatory screaming-wailing child wandering around the patio; but I prefer the meet my drinking buddies somewhere we can also eat if so inclined.
Hear hear Begen. The Grange is okay. no more, no less. Given all the praise heaped upon the Grange on this site, one wonders if DM isn’t getting some free beers and chips on the side

God….I am so glad I am not in the restaurant business.
I will chime in here…as I have been twice and sat at the bat for one beer each time. Guiness was great, bartender was very ho-hum to someone who came in soon after they opened.
I don’t know about you, but a cheery “Hey, how ya doing!” makes up 50% of my experience at a pub.
Its a fair concern…early on we got some free wine when we got a sneak peak and then we went to the opening and had a comped meal like everyone else. That’s it though.
From comments, it seems like the food can be hit or miss…but I’ve always enjoyed it and have never had it when it was cold and rubbery. Be that as it may, I’d still say that everything else about the place makes up for it. The people, the beer selection, the prices…
Obviously that hasn’t been the case for some others.
I’ve been three times now and each time was a bit better than the time before. For a new place, that’s a solid enough trend to keep me coming back. Decatur’s just a tough town, pub-wise. The bar’s exceptionally high (no pun intended), so catching a groove takes a little time.
The price is right, good food, decent portions, nice place, pleasant service. Period. Nothing for me to complain about.
I am a regular and have had nothing but great experiences – one thing I would like to ask is, are you giving the owners your feedback (in a constructive way of course?)? Jen, Darren and Colin are great and I am sure they they would be only to pleased to hear about your experience, good and bad. This would give them real time, local feedback that they may need and the chance to make changes, address issues if need be, etc…
We all want them to succeed and while I have nothing but praise for them, I think the food is excellent and I have tried most things on the menu, the staff are friendly and the beer selection is awesome, but get that may not be everyone’s experience if you have an issue or concern just let them know I really think they would appreciate it!
This is Darren one of the owners. Thanks DeacturResident (and all of the other positive reviews), thanks also for the negative ones too as we are paying attention. Fortunately we have had such great support from Decatur locals that we have been both amazed and ecstatic. With this support it is very hard to monitor (and control) every bodies experience at the pub. Direct feedback (real time) rather than having people leave with a less than favorable view of the place would help us,
Misses will unfortunately happen. My wife and I had our anniversary at one of the most high profile restaurants in Atlanta and trust me they missed. We want to have far more hits than misses. I have learned first hand how intense it can be to reach a level of consistency for all – but we are really trying. We are gradually building a solid crew to help us get there. We are not fine dining and some people have high expectations but what we do we try to do well. We will continue to work hard and evolve based on constructive feedback. (BTW Hobgoblin keep the glass pint night Thur Oct 30)
The new additions to the menu are great – you have to try the carrot and ginger soup – warning: It is addictive! Have not made it to brunch yet but soon!
Happy E Day
