Recent Emory/Decatur Parking Deck Break-Ins
Decatur Metro | September 5, 2008The Emory Wheel reports on a whole laundry list of car break-ins recently at Emory’s Peavine Parking Deck that sits along Fraternity Row (near the massive, new, under-construction Psych building) But the article also goes on to state that this “trend mimics similar cases around the Emory area, including Decatur”.
According to police, most of these recent break-ins involve stealing GPS units.
I work at Emory and park at Peavine. Seldom do I see the paid parking attendents patrolling the decks in their golfcarts…they are either sitting chatting in the lobby together, eating, or talking on their cell phone.
They seldom ticket…or even notice…the cars parked straddling the parking lines and wasting spaces…and we have to PAY monthly to park there…$50!
I have now had my SECOND parking hangtag stolen from my car in less than two weeks.
A friend lives at Towne Square Condos and he told me that they had someone break into their resident garage two weeks ago. The individual shredded soft-top convertibles and bashed windows (something like a dozen cars in all) apparently all for fun, as nothing was stolen.
Decatur P.D. told him that this has happened at three or four other downtown Decatur condo buildings and that the suspect (captured on surveillence videos) is a serial vandal, who acts alone and doesn’t actually steal anything from the cars he destroys.
I’m sure that’s a great comfort to the people who wake up to find hundreds of dollars worth of damage to their cars as they attempt to leave the house for work in the morning…
