As the note on the map says, this graphic is for illustrative purposes only.  But it does give you an idea of remaining redevelopment potential in downtown Decatur.  I’m especially intrigued by the Fairview extension, “linear park” and redeveloped Gateway Apartments next to the Post Office (lower left-hand corner of the map).  Not to mention all the potential along Commerce.  Though we already sorta new about that.

There are conceptual plans like this for all of Decatur’s business districts in the Appendix, including Oakhurst, East Lake Station and East Decatur Station.

In the past 36 hours, Patch has posted three separate pieces on crime and suspects apprehended in the Decatur zip.

• Woman Narrowly Escapes Attempted Carjacking in Decatur – Woman from Cobb County reports to Decatur PD that she was stopped on Kirk Road a little after midnight on March 31st by two men, one armed.  She told police she escaped by driving southbound on Columbia.
• Crime Blotter: 30030 Decatur Burglaries On Rise – This is actually a post mainly about recent burglaries at the Archstone Apartments just outside the Decatur city limits on DeKalb Industrial Way.  In terms of “burglaries on the rise in 30030″, there’s no real info on that in the actual article.  But a check of Crimereports.com shows 48 “incidents” in the past 30 days compared to 37 “incidents” in the 30 days prior.  However, it is getting warmer out and so part of that increase is possibly seasonal.
• Suspect Nabbed in Overnight Burglary; May Be Connected to Others – Good police work and community meetings result in the capture and arrest of a South Decatur home burglary suspect.

And just to provide a bit of balance to this crime-heavy news – hundreds of random (and no so random) acts of kindness went unreported to anyone else, let alone the police.
