(And, by the way, I agree that our PD needs better digs and, amidst the sources of funding that could actually be used to do something about it, I support that it be prioritized. Crime and schools. The “wasted money” you refer to is a) not considered to be wasted by those who use the facilities (like the bike riders I saw this morning) and b) couldn’t have been used for purposes other than what it was used for.

And while part of the fear factor can certainly can be higher crime rates, I recently read a couple studies that confirmed my suspicion that people's perception of crime isn't at all correlated to the actual crime levels, but to how much its covered by news/info sources.But crime "sells", so most news orgs overlook this. Too bad there police station is a rundown school. They deserve so much better. I went pick up a report the other day and couldn't get over the horrible conditions they have.
