“The Great Frame Up” Closing?

Just found out(by walking by) that the frame shop and the gift shop next door (in the Publix shopping center) are closing/have closed!!
Has anyone else noticed this?
I am going to start a rumor. Pure rumor. So don’t blame me for misinterpreting what I thought I saw. But I noticed a delivery of what looked like a commercial size refrigerator into what was the book store. Maybe these three adjacent stores are becoming a restaurant???
If true, you heard it here first. If not, I didn’t see nuthin’.
Also noticed that Sabrina’s next door is closing too…
Spoke to a Sabrina’s employee last week. She said leases on both store were expiring. Rent was going up and both store owners decided to close up shop rather than resign leases .
Oh no no no! They are (were) terrific. Totally helpful with non-obvious but perfect suggestions every time. Darn it.
What’s the root cause ? A general decline in the framing business ? A problem with the franchise, or simply local economics (increased rent) ?
NO!!!!!!!! I have been framing stuff there for 15 years. I hope I don’t have a full punch card laying around. Any word on them moving to another location? I will follow them. Should they not resurface somewhere – can anyone recemmond a good frame shop?
The framing shop in Suburban Plaza is pretty good. Not cheap but good selection and they did a good job.
Great frame shop across from Toco Hills in a very non-descript ranch house. Good people, good work and reasonable prices. Toco HIlls Picture Framing, on North Druid Hills, accross from the Toco HIll shopping center.
Didn’t Sabrina’s close once before and come back? A long time ago…
I will miss Sabrina’s. I have to admit that I didn’t go there often, but when I did, they had just what I needed and just in time. I hope they locate nearby.
That framing shop was the best one I found in the entire Atlanta area. I sincerely hope they relocate and let us know where that location will be!
The guys from the frame shop told me about the closing when I visited in December. They said the state of the economy had hurt business and the rent had gone up too much. I was told they’d been doing it a long time and just decided to call it a day. I don’t think there were plans to relocate. Bummer.
There are other Great Frame Up stores around; hopefully the Emory Commons folk can relocate.
I am (was) the owner of the frame shop – and wanted to chime in for a couple of comments. First, and I speak for the guys who worked for me and myself – thank you for your kind remarks. It matters at a time like this.
The closing of the shop was a result of two things – the inflexible and unreasonable landlord who failed to extend any rent relief or an acceptable option to renew – and the realization that, after 32 years, I am ready to move on to something different. The hardest part of that decision was to lose three of the best employees who were the heart and soul of the shop. They will be missed by many of our customers. They made me very proud.
A final ‘thank you’ to all of those valued customers who made our job a pleasure since 1979.
