Will there be hard liquor available for the parents?
Is this a great city or what? The City is providing a snow day camp, sand is starting to show up on the streets, and the coffeeshops are open. And I got to ski before everything turned to ice.
Wonder what time people will start lining up and how long the line will be?! Let’s see, 80 FREE spots over a thousand kids……
please let the schools be open, please oh please
Stampede!
well, they just announced that Georgia Perimeter would be closed Friday due to icy road conditions ..
also, saw several people wipe out on sidewalks downtown Decatur..still a bit nasty out there! be careful!
Go Decatur Rec!
Perhaps the Joker will show up with a broken pool cue for the parents to resolve it like that scene from Dark Knight?
I love Decatur Rec!
City of Decatur Schools are cancelled Jan 14th according the CSD Website.
Just got the robocall and almost tore my hair out. I work from home and this week has killed productivity and left me exhausted. It’s awesome of the city to do this. I wish it were open to pre-K, too. I can’t just send one of my kids there.
I really hope the city just cancels the next weeklong break to make up for this.
Kudos to the Rec Center. The staff is courteous, kind, energetic, and so dedicated to good causes. If you see a DRC employee, please give them a hug–they deserve it!
I agree. They are the best! One of the best features for families in Decatur!
“I really hope the city just cancels the next weeklong break to make up for this.” That’s a good idea. Those breaks are awful!
Except when they’re awesome, which is how they work out for me. To each his own, I guess.
Yep, Scott….but we just had a week long break… .. right after a two week long break. It seems a little silly to think we need yet another one less than 4 weeks later.
No matter when CSD makes this up, people will be inconvenienced. Folks have made Feb. plans (myself included). Folks have made April plans and folks have made May/June plans. My vote is to make up the days before CRCT testing. I spoke to a teacher today who is pretty freaked about getting everything done in time.
Again, no matter when you make them up… someone is inconvenienced…If inconvenience is unavoidable…. let’s create inconvenience when it benefits our students and our schools…not when our students are going to gain little or nothing from the make up days.
Cherokee County (calendar similar to ours) already announced that they plan to cut their February break for make up days.
Agree that days made up, if that happens, should be before the CRCT if possible.
I love Decatur Rec, too.
Reports please! I’m sure that the kids who are there are having a blast! Did a bunch of kids show up or did everyone think it’d fill up too quickly & stay away?
*Super cool of the Rec Folks to hold this camp!
At 11 a.m. there were approximately 20 children having a fun day at Decatur Rec Center with the Children and Youth Services after school staff. Numbers could increase as the morning progressed.
Thanks Marian! I’ll bet those kids had a blast!
Kinda surprising that no one else has weighed in with tales of the kids’ crafting & games…
