A “Wild Heaven” Brewery in Decatur By Next Year? It Could Happen.

Decatur Metro | January 4, 2011

Back when Nick Purdy launched his “Wild Heaven” craft beers in September, it was pretty well known that while the beers were brewed by a contract brewer in South Carolina, Purdy’s long-term goal was to open a craft brewery right here in Decatur.

Apparently that dream might not be as far off.

In a recent article on Patch, Purdy says he’s already in the process of executing plans to open a permanent brewery in Decatur “as soon as 2012″.  He won’t give up the specific location, but says it’s near the old Paste offices at East Decatur Station and that he’s already “deep into the process” of making it a reality.

In terms of what he’d like Wild Heaven to most be like, Purdy cites breweries like Dogfish Head, Allagash, Avery, Russian River and Stone.

A “Brew Masters“-type establishment in Decatur?

Even a casual beer-geek such as myself knows that could be pretty awesome.

Clifton Serves as Northwestern Border of Proposed Fernbank School Zone

Decatur Metro | January 4, 2011

The Druid Hills Civic Association reports on their website…

The school redistricting proposal disclosed at last night’s Board of Education meeting drew the line right down Clifton. Anything west of Clifton would be out of Fernbank and sent to Briar Vista. There are going to be follow up public meetings held by the consulting firm as follows: 1/13 Miller Grove High School; 1/13 Chamblee HS; 1/18 McNair HS; 1/20 Stone Mountain MS, all at 6:30. Following these meetings, the interim superintendent is to make a recommendation to the Board of Education on 1/31. There are to be 2 additional public hearings on 2/22 and 2/24 (6:30pm) at the AIC auditorium, then on 2/28 the Board is going to issue its final approval.

Decatur City Commission Delays Decision on West Ponce “No Parking Zone”

Decatur Metro | January 4, 2011

City Manager Peggy Merriss summarizes the decision by the Decatur City Commission last night to delay approval of the extended “No Parking Zone” along West Ponce de Leon Avenue between Pinetree and Adair Street.

The City Commission postponed a decision regarding the “No Parking” zone on  West Ponce de Leon to allow Hugh Saxon and David Junger time to assess the vehicle lane transition of  West Ponce de Leon from the intersection of Northern Avenue through to Adair Street with the caveat that we could take any action necessary if it was needed to assure safety.

The “No Parking” zone on Feld Avenue was approved.

In Your Opinion: Best Album of 2010

Decatur Metro | January 4, 2011

Well, the “Best Movie of 2010″ post started out a bit slow, but we ended up with a good number of suggestions and click-thru counts to the comments seemed to indicate that I wasn’t the only person out there interested in the opinion of their Decatur neighbors.  (I’ve already added quite a few to my Netflix queue.)

So we move on to another area of media: music!  Our good, local friends at Paste put out their “Top 50 albums of 2010” back in early December with LCD Soundsystem, Janelle Monae, and Mumford and Sons in the top three slots.

But that’s just one opinion, be it a very well-informed one! So, what do YOU think was the best album of 2010?
