There’s already been some discussion of this on-going installation in the Free-For-All Friday comments, but here’s a bit more detail about the location of these new, city-run tornado sirens.  From the Decatur Minute…

There is a siren for each quadrant of the City. In addition to the one located on Agnes Scott’s campus, the others are located at Westchester, Oakhurst Elementary, Winnona Park Elementary, and Glennwood Academy. In the event that the National Weather Services issues a tornado warning for the Decatur area, the Decatur Police Communications Center will sound the siren for three to five minutes per issued warning. During the sounding, the siren head will rotate.

The City will conduct a test of the system at 3 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month.

At 9AM on Saturday, December 12, 2009, there will be a park clean up and wood chip spreading party at the Church and Community Park and Playground located at First Christian Church of Decatur at the intersection of Ponce de Leon Ave and Nelson Ferry Road.

Hundreds of families in Decatur and from across our fair city love to play and meet at the park. Now is a great time to pitch in — literally — by spreading mulch and wood chips to help freshen the grounds and make nicer for all of our children.

DHS teacher Chris Billingsley reports in…

The 9th grade students spent today in the gym building roller coasters. Physics teachers Ms. Debra LeDoux and Mr. David Schaar have developed a hands-on way to teach the laws of motion. While students were in the gym, they met former DHS student and current Georgia Tech basketball star Sam Shew. Sam has maintained a near 4.0 academic average while playing for the Yellow Jackets. Pictured with Sam is one of his favorite teachers, Ms. Ayoka Shakir. All the students had a great day. Thanks Ms. LeDoux and Mr. Schaar.
