“Eat 2″ To Replace “Thai Me Up”

Decatur Metro | December 21, 2009

Back in October we reported that “Thai Me Up” at 225 West Ponce de Leon Ave had a bad case of “changing sign syndrome”.

Last week, marlatiara wrote to DM with this report via Twitter…

Thai Me up has a new sign – “Coming Soon” and says “Eat” on one side “Thai” on the other (name?) and Jan 2.

Well, the agenda for tonight’s city commission meeting clears up the confusion.  Applicant Pitchit Pornsopone has filed an alcohol application for a new spot at the location called “Eat 2″.  Though the name doesn’t give away much, from previous mumblings it sounds like this will be another Thai restaurant “under new management” in our fair city.

Decatur Home Becomes First Renovation in Southeast to Achieve Highest LEED Rating

Decatur Metro | December 21, 2009

Doug Glasgow writes in to announce that the renovation of his home on Kirk Road was awarded LEED Platnuim certification this past week.  It’s a first for a home renovation in the Southeast.

Currently there are only four new homes in all of Georgia that are certified platinum, however “this project [completed by Hammertime Construction] serves as an example of how sustainable design can be successfully used on all types of projects, not just new homes.”

How did this Kirk Road renovation achieve such a rating?  Here are some of the details…

The 4 bedroom, 3 bath project features triple pane low-e argon windows, high efficiency Energy Star LED lighting fixtures and compact fluorescent bulbs and spray foam insulation. Other energy efficiency and water saving upgrades include a solar thermal hot water system with an on-demand hot water circulation loop, dual-flush toilets and low-flow bathroom fixtures, Energy Star Appliances, programmable thermostat with high efficiency gas furnace and air conditioners, mechanical ventilation, as well as a 5000 gallon rainwater collection system for irrigation.

The necessary plumbing, for the future use of greywater or rainwater for toilet flushing, has Low VOC (volatile organic compounds) paint, a radon mitigation system, local storm felled trees harvested and milled for flooring and ceilings as well as high recycled content countertops have been used throughout the house.

More pics, including some interior shots after the jump.
